Song Hye Kyo Wants Both Takeshi Kaneshiro and Huang Xiaoming

The Crossing <太平輪>, John Woo’s (吳宇森) epic film about the sinking of the 1949 Chinese steamer Taiping, will greet audiences next week. Filmed in two parts back-to-back, the first part of the 3D film opens December 2 in mainland China, while the second part is slated for a release in May 2015.

Starring Takeshi Kaneshiro (金城武), Zhang Ziyi (章子怡), Song Hye Kyo (宋慧喬), Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明),Masami Nagasawa (長澤雅美), and Tong Dawei (佟大為), The Crossing takes place during the Chinese Civil War of 1949. Three couples board the Chinese steamer Taiping to flee from China to the island of Taiwan, but the ship meets a tragic end.

John Woo, Takeshi Kaneshiro, and Song Hye Kyo promoted the film at a press conference held in Shanghai yesterday. It has been three years since Takeshi Kaneshiro’s last onscreen appearance in 2011 martial arts film Dragon <武俠>.

Despite being one of the most popular actors in the industry, Takeshi is surprisingly low-profile and mysterious in his private life. Takeshi explained, “When I’m not making a movie, I am resting quietly, playing games, or reading books. I don’t have a filming quota. Maybe that’s the reason why no one sees me as often, but as long as there is an opportunity, I will hold onto it well.”

Korean actress Song Hye Kyo worked hard to learn how to speak Mandarin so she can speak her own lines for the film. Song Hye Kyo and Takeshi Kaneshiro do not play a couple in The Crossing, but the 33-year-old actress was asked to choose between Takeshi Kaneshiro and Huang Xiaoming. Slightly overwhelmed by the question, Song Hye Kyo  replied, “Huang Xiaoming and Takeshi Kaneshiro are both very refined and considerate. If it’s possible, I want to have both of them.”

In the film, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Japanese actress Masami Nagasawa portray a couple with a tragic but beautiful ending. John Woo joked that Takeshiro “loves” to film romantic scenes. Despite being an expert, Takeshiro admitted that he felt really embarrassed when he had to kiss Masami. “Because both of us are close, it already felt odd having to play a couple. When we filmed the kissing scene, it was really embarrassing. Thank goodness filming went smoothly.”

  1. One japanese, one chinese, one korean. However do they communicate?

    1. the amazing and wonderful Takeshi can converse in Mandarin, Taiwanese, Cantonese.

      1. Yeah ..& you left out that he can even speak fluent japanese

      2. He’s half japanese half chinese ( taiwanese but still chinese ) so it isnt any shock that he can speak those languages. It considered less. I have a friend. He’s 1/4 English 1/4 Italian 2/4 Chinese ( he looks 45% english 45 percent italian and 10% chinese ) he speaks 15 languages flunetly including a few dialects, thus he’s hot. Alot of people can do that too lol. Why praise him for being able to only speak 4 languages?

      3. @weirdo: In praise of Takeshi because he is who he is.

It’s hard to praise your friend who is unknown to us.

  2. It really amazes me how Takeshi Kaneshiro has never won or been nominated I don’t think a best actor award in either the Golden Rooster/Chicken, Golden Horse or the Hong Kong film awards…why is that? I really liked his performance in the 2005 film Perhaps Love 如果·愛.

    1. Someone can confirm or correct me, but i think it’s due to the fact that Takeshi is 1/2 Japanese. Chinese are known to hate the Japanese due to the historical event that took place. I LOVEEEEE TAKESHI!!!! MY ALL TIME FAVE actor! Sooo HOT!

      1. TK has many fans among Chinese. Even the recently deceased Japanese Ken Takakura has many admirers in China.

    2. I’m very surprised Takeshi hasn’t won at least one award in all his acting years.

  3. Song Hye Kyo is a dull actress, should get pretty n talented Ha Ji Won to participate, she speaks impeccable English

      1. That was good English, her latest appearance in Vietnam speaking English was superd!

    1. I’m not so sure about the impeccable English part. But I do agree that Ha Ji Won is a better actress than Song Hye Kyo. HJW’s eyes can speak volumes.

    2. You know nothing ! Song Hye Gyo Has improved leaps and bounds as an actress. Her latest drama with JIS and Cmovie with Tony and Zhang shows it

      1. Song H G is a not good actress compare to her peers in Korea, Ha Ji Won alone can kill her…Hehe

  4. Luv Takeshi! Modest, down-to-earth type of guy. He is one rare gem among Asian actors we have out there. I look forward to watching him onscreen again.

  5. Love his low timbre husky voice when speaking in Japanese. Swoon ❤️❤️❤️. Of course I also like his cute accent when speaking in Cantonese. I really miss him in that Japanese drama with Kyoko.

  6. I’ll choose takeshi anytime over Huang xiaoming! He’s so real while the latter is all PS

  7. Me gustaria una pelicula que sean pareja Song Hye Kyo y Takeshi Kaneshiro.dos grandes actores y muy bellos!!
