“The Queen of News” Confirms Third Season

The newsroom is heating up again — The Queen of News 3 <新聞女王3> is officially on the way! One of TVB’s rare breakout hits in recent years, The Queen of News, is set to return for a third season, sending fans of the iconic newscaster drama into excitement.

TVB held its “TVB 2026 Greater Bay Area Integration · IP Expansion Press Conference” in Shenzhen on June 12, where a slate of upcoming dramas was unveiled, including The Queen of News 3, Themis 2 <正義女神2>, News Officer Hui Sze Ching <新聞官許詩晴>, War of the Roses <玫瑰戰爭>, Model Lawyers <模範律師團> and Under the Table <枱底人生 >.

Shaun Tam Hopes Matthew’s Character Is Out of the Way

For fans of The Queen of News, the biggest highlight was undoubtedly confirmation that Season 3 is in the works. Speaking about reprising his role, Shaun Tam (譚俊彥) said he had only received the news not long ago, and was happy that the original team would be working together again. He joked that there were still many unresolved storylines from The Queen of News 2, especially when it came to his character’s relationship with Charmaine Sheh’s (佘詩曼) character.

I hope this season will give Ah Sheh and me more screen time to continue our relationship storyline — and kick Matthew Ho (何廣沛) out of the way!” he laughed. “They’ve already broken up anyway, haha!”

When asked if the pair would rekindle their romance, Shaun teased: “We never stopped.”

Shaun also joked that since producer Chung Shu-kai often talks about the metaverse, he hopes The Queen of News 3 could even crossover with a medical drama to heal his character’s injured leg. While filming dates have yet to be confirmed, he said he believes more updates will be announced later.

Samantha Ko (高海寧), who plays the well-loved Cathy Hui Sze Ching, was equally excited about the upcoming third season. She said the Queen of News cast already has strong chemistry and a deep understanding of their characters, making it easy for them to return to the story world.

Asked whether she had received confirmation about joining Season 3, Samantha laughed: “I saw that it’s happening, so surely they won’t leave me out, right?”

Adding to the excitement, Samantha is also getting her own spin-off drama, News Officer Hui Sze Ching, centred on her popular character Cathy. Although preparations for the series have yet to be finalised, Samantha said she is always ready to step back into the role.

Once I put the costume back on, I’m already her!” she said. Samantha added that Cathy has always shown a strong and resilient side, but there are still many other facets of the character waiting to be explored. She said she is very much looking forward to showing audiences more of Cathy’s story.

With The Queen of News 3 in the pipeline and Cathy getting her own spin-off, fans can expect even more newsroom power plays, emotional entanglements and sharp-tongued drama ahead.

The star-studded line-up also included Moses Chan (陳豪), Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), Owen Cheung (張振朗), Him Law (羅子溢), Katy Kung (龔嘉欣), Kelly Cheung (張曦雯), Alice Chan (陳煒), Joman Chiang (蔣祖曼) and Joey Thye (戴祖儀), alongside TVB chairman Thomas Hui, Virginia Lok (樂易玲) and senior executives.
