Anthony Wong to Film New TVB Drama this Summer

In an episode of TVB’s Telling Maria <最佳男主角> talk show that aired in October 2012, Best Actor winner Anthony Wong (黃秋生) expressed that he would “agree in a heartbeat” if TVB producer Amy Wong (王心慰) offered him a role in a new TVB drama. “She brought me back to life,” he said.

The 51-year-old film actor initially debuted as television artist under ATV in the early 1980s. In 1989, with the support of Amy Wong, Anthony signed with TVB and starred in numerous popular television dramas, including The Justice of Life <他來自江湖> and The Witness of Time <天若有情>. In 1994, after shooting his last TVB drama Passion Among Us <驚心都市>, Anthony left the station to focus on his film career, but returned ten years later to shoot TVB’s co-production with RTHK, ICAC Investigators 2004 <廉政行動2004>.

In a report released earlier this week, Amy Wong confirmed that she is currently preparing for a new TVB drama that is expected to begin production in May or June of this year. “Anthony Wong will be starring,” she further revealed. “We’re still in creative stages and are brainstorming.” Asked if the drama would be about kung fu as claimed earlier, she said, “We don’t know yet. It can change anytime.” She added with a laugh that Anthony will not be part of the production’s writing process, saying, “He’s just receiving acting remunerations!”

As the drama is still in very early preparation stages, Anthony is the only confirmed cast member. Netizens suggested Amy to cast TV Queen Kristal Tin (田蕊妮) to be the female lead, but Amy said, “I welcome any actress who wants to work with Anthony to audition herself, to see if the role is suitable for her.”

As it has been nearly twenty years since Anthony last starred in an exclusive TVB production, Amy said her team is not rushing into the writing process. “It’s a rare opportunity to get Anthony to work with us, so we need to do something creative. We want have a happy collaboration with a good production.”
