Ron Ng Experienced Near Death Accident When He was 16

Ten fingers are not enough to count the numerous girlfriends Ron Ng (吳卓羲) was rumored to have throughout his career in the entertainment industry. Gossip magazines made it appear that Ron would become involved with every new actress he teams up with. The Ruse of Engagement <叛逃> star acknowledged that it is his flirty image that makes him an easier target for such gossip.

“Many people tell me that I look like a playboy and because of that, girls wouldn’t dare to approach me.”

Currently in his fourteenth year in the industry, 34-year-old Ron has become a senior artiste within his company. The years have taught him to be patient, understanding, and forgiving. Fame comes at a cost, and Ron admitted that the side-effects of popularity took him years to get used to. “Yes, the entertainment industry is a game. There are things that are just meant to humor you. Why take everything so seriously?”

A few weeks ago, a former TVB production assistant, with the pen name Ngai Man Ho (偽文豪), published a tell-all book about the dark secrets of TVB, its staff, and its artistes. Ron was speculated to be one of the badmouthing artists the author mentioned in the novel. Ngai Man Ho even admitted in an interview that he disliked Ron Ng.

“It’s all very silly!” said Ron. The novel claimed that an artiste, speculated to be Ron, was rude to an action choreographer and yelled at a costume stylist for hurting him with a pin. Ron denied the claims from the book, “None of that happened! I’m close to a lot of PAs, but as for the author…I have no idea who he is.” Ron believed that people will soon forget about the gossip.

Defends Eddie Kwan’s “Moon Jump”

Although TVB’s action-crime drama Ruse of Engagement, produced by Amy Wong (王心慰), has finished its broadcast, many viewers still find Eddie Kwan’s (關禮傑) “moon jump” unforgettable. Many parodies were made of Eddie’s superhuman jump, becoming a popular Internet meme at one point. Netizens criticized Ruse of Engagement for being over-the-top and unrealistic.

Ron defended, “I do remember that scene particularly well. When I arrived on set, I was so relieved that I didn’t have to jump! We had to jump across the roofs of two twenty-story factory buildings. Although we had action choreographers on board and there were wires, it was still very scary experience for many!” Ron explained that he is actually afraid of heights, recalling one terrifying experience where his flight to Canada was experiencing high turbulence for over three hours, and in the end he downed four glasses of Whiskey so he could pass out to sleep. He tries to avoid long-term flights.

Near-Death Experience

Ron is a devout Buddhist and carries three Thai Buddha talismans wherever he goes for luck. He never misses a year without going to Thailand to pray in the temples. Ron revealed that he became a Buddhist after surviving a severe car accident which killed three of his friends when he was 16 years old.

It was 1995. Ron and four friends were driving out of Tuen Mun to Kowloon. As they were about to enter the highway, they got into a severe car accident that killed three of his friends – two male and one female. The other passenger, a female, was hospitalized for several weeks. Ron, the other surviving passenger, only suffered a minor injury on his foot.

“It’s been 18 years already! I was sitting on the left side of the backseat. When we crashed, I watched the friends around me dying. I remember screaming at them to not fall asleep. I still remember their faces.” For the next few years, Ron’s deceased friends continuously appeared in his dreams.

No Plans for Romance

Ron has been busy balancing his career in both Hong Kong and mainland China. Getting paid over 100,000 RMB per episode in a Mainland Chinese drama, Ron disclosed that he recently purchased his first home in Hong Kong.  “My mother used to always tell me that after being in the business for so long, I didn’t buy a proper house for myself. I’ve finally purchased my first home. I plan to buy three more.” He hopes to continue to split his time in Hong Kong to maintain his popularity, while earning more money in Mainland.

Already in his mid-thirties, is Ron interested in having children at all? “I have many friends and classmates who are already married and with kids. They all tell me that if I want kids, I should start now because I’m still young and it’s easier to communicate with them. However, I really have no time to date! I have no time for a girlfriend, and I definitely have no time for a family. At the moment, the only thing I can do is focus on my work. Work harder for a few years, and let’s see what fate brings to me later!”

Though Ron said he is not thinking about marriage now, it is something he plans for the next several years. “However, I will definitely not do announce my relationship like how I did in the past!”

  1. First Commenter for the first time! Yeah.

Anyways, Nice pic of Ron. When was that taken? A few years ago? Cause he certainty doesn’t look that good anymore.

    1. You guys must be stupid this was only a year ago not even a year a few months ago in 2013. And Ron did get chubbier he should lose some weight. Or make that weight to muscles.

  2. Very lucky he survived. Must have been very traumatic.

“star acknowledged that it is his flirty image that makes him an easier target for such gossip”

    Flirty image? Not flirty actions?

  3. A Buddhist like a handful of the other Chinese celebrities, when majority are converting to Christianity these days…?
Good for you! I am a Buddhist also. Nevertheless when I first arrived here in the West decades ago; I am the remaining only sole Buddhist….among my friends.
    All my fiends were converting to Christianity …left & right. Nothing wrong with that! [Only hope it ‘s not by peer pressure or the “in thing ” to do….}
I am thankful for what I have & be what I am today. Not turning my back to my religious belief….! Seen me through good and bad times my undying faith….!

    1. I do not think it is the religion but the person themselves. As long as you are a good person, then religion should not matter. I am Buddhist more by name my mom is a devout Buddhist but my late father did not really believe in any religion. I don’t want my life to revolve around religion, but if religion is good for any person then they can believe what they like. However, I feel they should not allow any religion to control their lives or their way of thinking in every way. We should think for ourselves as well.

      1. You have no right in telling others to emulate your own titular religiosity. Doesn’t calling oneself of a certain faith but then in reality rejecting its practices makes one a “hypocrite” of a sort?

And please disabuse yourself of the silly notion that religious faith is a matter of committing intellectual suicide. Many great minds of the past and present are also people of religious faith

      2. Dude, like I have said, people can believe what they like. It does not concern me, BUT I feel at the same time that we need to think for ourselves too and not just throw religion out there as excuses for our actions. For example, those terrorists that do all of those really bad things all say it is in the name of religion. What is that????

Also, like I have said, I am only a Buddhist by name so do not believe in everything nor do I allow it to control me. I think for myself!!!!

      3. ^
And Albert Einstein was a devout Jew; he often inject God in his scientific findings and discussions. His most famous quote was “My God does not play dice” in challenging the Reisenberg Principle of Uncertainty.

He certainly was one who did not see any mutual exclusivity between the spiritual and the intellectual.

And that’s all I was saying.

      4. Also, I agree that throwing anything (including religions) as excuses for any inappropriate actions is wrong.

However, that was not what you wrote from your original post.

  4. I dont really like christianty eithier but most of family and friends are roman catholic.

  5. So Ronny boy claims to be a devout Buddhist; doesn’t Buddha teach self control in the matter of sex?? LOL!!

Time to join the majority of Chinese in converting to Taoism.

    1. I have only heard of Buddhism saying that monks and nuns cannot have sex or engage in anything like that. However, I have heard of them saying that regular people who are Buddhists must control their sexual urges or anything like that….

      1. Well, Ron certainly did not control himself as evidenced by all his past scandals. LOL!!
