Zhu Zhengting Called Out for Lateness and Being a Divo

Chinese singer-actor Theo Zhu Zhengting’s (朱正廷) career may be entering rocky waters, as he is under fire for his tardiness and divo-like attitude. Finding fame after his participation in music survival show Idol Producer <偶像練習生>, Zhengting was part of boyband Nine Percent. He successfully transitioned to filming variety shows and dramas. Recently, the 26-year-old was called out for his unprofessionalism by an assistant director he previously worked with.

On July 16, an assistant director publicly called out Zhengting for several faults, including his complete disregard for the director and costars. In his 12-minute-long video, the assistant director launched three damaging accusations: (1) Zhengting was would constantly use dinner as an excuse to be late, even when the entire cast and crew was ready to film; (2) Zhengting was a divo – because he dislikes the heat and being tired, he would take it out on the production crew; and (3) he was always late, causing delays with the production progress by being at least 10 to 20 minutes late every day.

To prove the authenticity of his claims, the assistant director revealed his personal identity card and employee badge online, which indicate that he was the assistant director in Su Ji <蘇記>. Furthermore, he uploaded screenshots of a group chat where many crewmembers and actors commented on Zhu Zhengting’s tardiness.

Claiming Zhengting was falsely accused, fans bullied the assistant director and his family on social media.  Also, Zhengting’s fans shared screenshots of group conversations where the star was praised for his easygoing and fun behavior.

Adding to the controversy, another person came forth and accused Zhengting of being nitpicky and throwing his microphone on the floor when he became frustrated while filming for the talent show, Masked Dancing King <蒙面舞王>.

Due to the current climate of stricter Chinese government stipulations, an actor’s reputation and character may cost his career.  If these allegations against Zhu Zhengting continue to flame, he will likely lose future opportunities as investors are unwilling to feature him in new projects.

  1. To be honest, China have a huge pool of young good looking newbies that will kill for a good platform to be famous.. I hope every newbie treasure their opportunity as the industry don’t need them to survive, they need the industry if this is their chosen career path…
These days, it is so easy for any star to be exposed for bad behaviour…but there are cases of fraud too. I hope Zhu Zhenting reflect on his behaviour if the accusation is true. Otherwise, he will be easily replaced by the next guy..

    1. Fame that comes too soon too fast may not do well. Not sure who he is but if the claims are ever found to be true (since chances are they may just die off), hopefully the fans will not defend him.
