Karen Wu Steals the Show in “Heavenly Hand”
One of the main highlights of new TVB drama Heavenly Hand <麻雀樂團> is undoubtedly the showdown between TVB’s two generations of goddesses, Ali Lee (李佳芯) and Rosita Kwok (郭柏妍). Thanks to the production team’s clever filming techniques, both actresses look stunning on screen.
Rosita, who plays a cellist in the drama, shows off a range of looks from an elegant evening gown, to a cute casual outfit, a fuzzy winter look, and a mature feminine style. With her big innocent eyes and endlessly long legs, Rosita’s nickname
“Leggy Kwok” is trending again. In one scene where she simply drinks water, Rosita still manages to catch viewers’ attention even though it lasts only a second or two. Some even joked it was the innocent version of the iconic water-drinking scene from The Queen of News <新聞女王>. Another memorable moment sees Rosita flipping her hair and smiling sweetly while wearing a fuzzy animal-print sweater.
Ali on the other hand ditches her goddess image for a more gender-neutral casual look. Yet she still manages to shine with her sweet smile.
Another standout performance comes from Karen Wu (胡敏芝), who plays the adopted younger sister of Shaun Tam (譚俊彥). With her appearance resembling the beloved cartoon character Tweety Bird, Karen’s character takes on a prominent role right from the first episode, dominating the screen from beginning to end. Her character is timid and jumpy, constantly afraid of her big brother. In a family dinner scene, she stands up for her second brother by boldly digging up an old recording to challenge him. Displaying her defiant streak in that scene, Karen’s vivid performance impresses with the subtleties of her facial expressions from slyness to feigned innocence. Her cute, girl-next-door look also catches attention.
It is no surprise that producer Marco Law (羅永賢) is singing praises for Karen. Marco had already noticed Karen’s potential as early as Big Biz Duel <企業強人> and said she was a perfect fit for the role.
Karen admits feeling pressure and excitement from taking on the role, “I never thought the producer would cast a newcomer like me or that I’d appear in every episode. I had to work even harder and do my homework because I’m still inexperienced. Besides memorizing my lines, I also highlighted and wrote down my character’s emotions next to them to help myself get into character more easily.”
Besides studying the script diligently, Karen lost over 10 pounds to make her onscreen romance with Brian Tse (謝東閔) more convincing: “I went from 99 pounds down to 88 pounds, hoping to lose some baby fat so I wouldn’t look so young and that our appearances would match better.” She expressed gratitude for Shaun and Ali’s support, “They would always eat and chat with us and guide me on how to improve. Even when the camera was only capturing the back of their heads and focusing on me, they still gave everything in their performances to help me stay in character. They were so [considerate] and professional.”

Absolutely love watching this TV series and Ali’s performance……..As well as Rosita and Karen who all play their roles very well………The show brings out a lot of heart-touching family emotions, while keeping the mood light-hearted and casual………As usual, my main thing is to see Ali and no matter what role she portrays, she still radiates like a goddess in all ways…….It is TVB’s biggest lost to not keep her around, as she is almost sure to attract a big audience in any series she stars in………
TVB should be promoting more young male stars. They have a very bad leading Uncle problem.
