EXO Dominates Music Charts with “Miracles in December”

S.M. Entertainment’s Chinese-Korean boy group EXO is on track to become Asia’s next biggest stars. The 12-member band released their special winter EP, Miracles in December <十二月的奇迹> to chart-topping success in December, debuting atop South Korean music sales charts such as Hanteo, Hot Tracks, Yes 24, and Sinnara Record.

Released in both Chinese and Korean, the Korean version of Miracles in December debuted at number one on the Gaon Album Chart and sold over 108,000 albums in its first week according to Hanteo, a few thousand copies shy from breaking a record set by TVXQ’s critically-acclaimed Mirotic in 2008. The Chinese version of Miracles in December had first-week sales of nearly 90,000 copies in South Korea alone, peaking at number one on the Gaon’s international music chart and number two on the local Hanteo chart.

The first five tracks that are recorded in the album have reached to top 20 positions on the Gaon Download Chart, and four of those tracks peaked in the top 10 on the Gaon Digital Chart with over 43 million sales in streaming, downloads, and ringtones. The Korean version of the lead single “Miracles in December” <十二月的奇迹> peaked at number one positions on nine of Korea’s major music charts soon after its release. On mainland China’s Baidu daily music charts, the Mandarin version of “Miracles of December” debuted at number nine.

“Miracles of December” is a pop ballad track with lyrics that are about searching for a lost loved one. Four EXO members provided the vocals for the ballad track, with EXO-K members Baekhyun, D.O., and EXO-M’s Chen performing in the Korean version, while Baekhyun, Chen, and EXO-M’s Lu Han performed in the Mandarin version.

EXO, separated into subgroups EXO-K and EXO-M, respectively debuted in South Korea and mainland China on April 8, 2012. The group has sold over 1 million albums since their debut, and their first studio album XOXO, which was released in June 2012, won Album of the Year at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, which was held in Hong Kong on November 22, 2013.

  1. The 12 pictures above are different people? I thought those were pictures of one person.

  2. Too sad that Kpop try to take over Cpop and Cbiz. Those boys just have the look but no talents(mosly Lyp-sync on Music shows) not like talented Chinese singers that sang the heart out every concerts.

    1. I agree there are talented chinese singers that don’t have a chances at all just because they don’t look very pretty or handsome

    2. Music is global no matter what the language is and no matter where in the world the music is from. I think American music is garbage, but the american music industry is the largest in the world. I do love Cpop, but I can’t deny that there hasn’t been a single Cpop artist that has been able to blow me away since I don’t even remember when.

And regarding whether these guys have talent are not, that is blatantly your opinion of what talent is. If you have ever heard EXO sing live in person, I am sure you would reconsider. EXO did sing 十二月的奇迹 live on every comeback stage. They didn’t train 5-6 years to only look good, so no need to bash on them like they aren’t passionate about what they do. They have worked hard to achieve the success they have. But I guess we all have our own opinions.

P.S. EXO does have Chinese members.

      1. I agree with you. Finally someone has spoken up. EXO has the looks and talents and they definitely done lip sync when they’re singing live.

    3. I don’t think they have the looks!!!

just a bunch of feminine looks guy wear too much make up colorful clothes

    4. I am 100% a Cantonese fan because I, myself is a very proud Cantonese Canadian but saying that Kpop is trying to take over Cpop is very wrong. For your information, it is a very different genre of music and to be honest I really do enjoy Kpop as well as Cantopop. And saying how EXO only got the face and no talent really is pushing it too far. What do you know about them? Do you know how hard it is in korea to promote. Because 80% of the population wants to become stars and wonder why they are so popular? Because THEY ACTUALLY HAVE TALENTS. Try watching one of their live shows and I bet you will be surprise. I grew up listening to Cpop and there are a lot talented stars and I would always respect their music. What you said what very unrespectful! What do you know about them really? Don’t start judging before assuming things. Pretty face is bonus to the talent they have. It’s true it’s about the look but it’s like dating someone, would you date somebody who has a pretty but a shitty personnality. I don’t think so! If you want to talk about a pretty face with no talent, sorry if I have to say this to my all time crush since I was 5 years Raymond Lam, but this dude doesn’t even deserve an award because his talent is nothing compare to a lot of singers.

Also stop the racism, they have Chinese member too in their group. And no they are not lyp-sync it’s what the broadcast has done. Know your stuff before talking because you just look like a fool and I pity your ignorance.

  3. Ewwwww…kpop is horrible…no talent, no skill in singing, even the looks are horrible. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW …..

Leslie Cheung is so much better. GO Cantopop!

    1. You still hung up about the past? Chinese music nowadays are garbage. Heck music Today is garbage. I don’t see any one can sing but only look and dancing to save their career.

  4. Personally… I love K-Pop… I listed almost exclusively to it and pretty much nothing else. Why? because it is upbeat and fun. Reminds me of the pop music I used to listen to in the 80s.

    Girl’s Generation, 2NE1, Girl’s Day, 4Minute, Kara, T-ara, Super Junior, and yes, even EXO…

I do prefer the girl groups because they tend to do fewer sappy ballads (not a fan of ballads AT ALL). Really don’t like this EXO song… but song like this:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH6ZwnqZ7Wo
(skip to 01:30, it’s where the song starts)

    I really enjoy 🙂

  5. I hate how all the Chinese are riding the kpop hallyu wave. I open a Chinese newspaper and its filled with Korean stuff. Even Jackie Chan is investing into a kpop group, for his movies he’s picking Korean actors. Invest back in Chinese!

    1. Korean stars get a lot more wild applause from Chinese audiences at various award shows compared to mild reception for domestic stars. Koreans may as well take over Chinese show business while Jay Chou’s pleas for CPop support are mocked.

      1. I live in Canada… in Canada the gov’t have a law in effect called CANCON. This forces Canadian TV and Radio station to show a certain percentage of shows that have a good deal of Canadian content. Canadians, for the most part, do not like the law.

        Why?

Because it supports mediocrity. You don’t have to be really good to get on the radio in Canada… you just need to be Canadian. That’s why a number of Canadian groups have success in Canada and limited success world wide. This is not, in my opinion, the best way to support your industry.

Artists of any type need to compete on a global scale. If CPop artists (or any artists for that matter) feel they aren’t receiving enough support, then figure out why that is and change. Try to compete instead of begging for handouts.

      2. @tvbfanatic: I live in Canada and I do not have an issue with the CANCON law. As for Canadian artistes being in the entertainment industry really depends on how well they put themselves out there and the amount of exposure they get.. There are some really successful ones out there such as Hedley, Drake, Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, Nickelback. (:

But I do agree that artistes of any type do need to ‘compete’ on a global scale.

      3. I believe Korea has similar law? Or rather similar law about foreign films shown in Korea if I am not mistaken?

      4. Really? korea has this kind of law? I only know that there is a limit for foreign movies to be shown in cinema in china.

  6. Music these days is forgettable, i still love those old music back in 60s, 70s where legends were born.

  7. WOOHOO!!! Go EXO!!!! Love you guys till the end of the world<3 EXO FIGHTING!!

  8. why is exo even on this site, they are all pretty boys but they lipsync too much

  9. I do agree that EXO does lip sync a lot for a lot of their dance songs, but as a ballad like Miracles in December, if you watch them live, they aren’t lip syncing. I wouldn’t consider them to be the best singers but I wouldn’t call them talentless.

    1. Twins is talentless. Use them as the base for comparison. If they’re worse than Twins then nothing more to be said.

      1. Twins are not talentless. I actually really enjoy every of their live show. They put their all to it and if you really understand the lyrics, you would know that they are singing from their heart. Why do they have to many fans then? I’ve been their fan more than 10 years because they sing their heart out compare to others. Singing is not only about the voice but also the heart. If you say it from the heart than it’s much better than from the voice. When you see it from the heart, we will listen from the heart. That’s how powerful these two girls are.

If you want to talk about EXO, Funn Lim please gather your informations before staying really dumb things because you don’t know them. Have you ever watched their live shows? I bet you didn’t because you are the kind of the person that judges from the start and that’s why there are so many ignorant people like you out there. I’m sorry if I sound disrespectful but that’s how you were being. I’m not saying all this because I want to catch a fight or defend my idols because I’m one of their fan but because there are too many people that judge too fast and don’t try to understand what is going on.

      2. “If you want to talk about EXO, Funn Lim please gather your informations before staying really dumb things because you don’t know them. ”

I am talking about Twins as a basis for comparison, I am not saying EXO is talentless. And I do think Twins is talentless and incredibly lucky. Whatever lyrics they may be singing, it is spoilt by their awful singing. I am not being ignorant if it is about Twins but there are many tone deaf people out there. There I said it.
