Charmaine Sheh is in Love With Her Work
With her expansive filming career, Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) spoke about her favorite roles in a recent interview. She admitted that she has to genuinely like every character she plays, otherwise she would not accept the role.
Charmaine said, “If you’re asking which character I want to be, my favorite is from Can’t Buy Me Love <公主駕到>. She is a princess–spoiled, bratty, beautiful, and loved by many. But I can’t be that headstrong in real life. I’m like the hidden version, while she’s the exposed version. It would be perfect if real life could be like that and there is a prince who truly loves you.” When asked if she liked fairy tales, she replied with a smile, “Every girl does.”
As for the most challenging role, Charmaine pointed to her recent performance in Themis <正義女神>, “It was a unique situation because we filmed it before The Queen of News 2 <新聞女王2>. I was supposed to be fully focused on preparing for The Queen of News 2, but then this amazing script and role came along and I had to quickly shift gears. My mind was already full of my role in in The Queen of News 2, but I had to wipe that out so no trace of the character would show up in my role as a judge in the new series.”
When asked what she would be doing if she were not an actress, Charmaine laughed and said, “Wow, how would I know? That’s up to fate.” She joked, “I think I’d be a mom! My manager’s shaking her head like, really, nothing else? I can’t do the same thing every day. A 9-to-5 job isn’t for me. Even being a mom might not work because I can’t stop. I go nuts when I go on holiday. If I’m off for too long, I get bored, feel like life is meaningless, and start thinking I’m useless. Maybe I’d be one of those travel foodies.”
Finally, when asked about her love life, Charmaine unexpectedly said, “I’ve never stopped dating! I’m dating my work. Every drama is like a relationship for me–I’m fully invested in understanding and exploring the characters. It takes so much energy, and I really fall for the roles I play. It’s actually quite romantic.” She added, “Do I have dissociative identity disorder? Yes, I do. I’m probably not very normal. I think most actors aren’t. Normal people can’t be actors—you’re constantly shifting from one persona to another. How can that be normal?”

Leftover women always make this statement, as it is quite obvious they do not have a significant other nor is there anyone pursuing them……..Charmaine is well past the ripeness age for wife-material, and though she has some youthful look still, it is unlikely prime-material bachelors would want to hook up with her………..She should just get use to the term ‘Leftover Woman’ instead.
Damn son, who triggered and hurt you?
OMG…one of the rudest comments I’ve come across. It’s her choice to put her career first, as many actresses do and when they made a name for themselves, their success comes with a price … in their late 30s early 40s … while still young, their options limited, they are picky and choosy for a reason …. whatever that might be, but calling them “left over’ is just rude.
Someone said “leftover woman” in their comments. Most rather be 50, rich, successful and a 10 on the attractive scale versus 20, poor, a dead beat, and a 1 on the attractive scale.
What a bitter person you are. She never said she was unhappy not being with a man, that’s your own assumptions.
