Jessica Hsuan Congratulates Natalie Tong on TV Queen Win

Although Jessica Hsuan (宣萱) lost out to Natalie Tong (唐詩詠) for this year’s TVB Best Actress award, she remains the most popular TV Queen selection among netizens. Many speculated that Jessica did not win the award due to her absence at the 50th TVB Anniversary Awards. Though she could not attend due to other work obligations, Jessica did stream the event afterward and congratulated Natalie for her win.

Jessica said, “Even though Natalie’s confidence beforehand was not very high, but at least her role in My Unfair Lady <不懂撒嬌的女人> was representative. Actually, all actresses in attendance were worthy of the award. Everyone worked hard.”

Despite being touted as the netizens’ choice for TV Queen, Jessica remains humble. “Everyone has their own fans who support them.”

It was speculated that Natalie extended her contract with TVB in exchange for the reward. Jessica responded, “These rumors are rampant every year. There were such rumors when I won the award in 1999.”

Although no longer a contracted artiste with TVB, the 47-year-old actress filmed two popular series with the company that aired in 2017, including My Unfair Lady and Line Walker: The Prelude <使徒行者2>. She is not opposed to filming again for TVB in the near future. If the company decides to film a third installment of the Line Walker franchise, will Jessica consider returning? “I will accept any role with a suitable script. It depends on my onscreen partner. Moses Chan’s (陳豪) character in the drama is already dead.” When asked for her choice of alternate co-stars, Jessica said, “I previously hinted to TVB through the media that I want to collaborate with Chilam Cheung (張智霖) or Louis Koo (古天樂)! I don’t think that will happen this year. Maybe next year.”

In regards to Liza Wang’s (汪明荃) shocking outburst about TVB having too many cliques, Jessica feels indifferent and believes that these issues are rather normal, stating that cliques are normal even in a regular office job. People often gather and get together due to mutual interest and compatibility, and not necessarily due to office politics. Jessica took her own experiences into consideration. As one of TVB producer Tommy Leung’s (梁家樹) most frequently utilized artistes, Jessica said, “He has taught me many things. He will take the work into consideration and plan for roles accordingly. He would not cast people in roles because of favoritism.”
