Lawrence Ng Still Goes On Family Trips with Ex-Wife and Daughter
Three years ago, Lawrence Ng (吳啟華) divorced his second wife Shi Yangzi (石洋子), whom he had been married to for seven years. Together, they have an 8-year-old daughter Ng Hei-yee (吳熙兒), who lives with her grandmother in Changchun, Jilin.
Father’s Day is a celebration for all fathers around the world, but for Lawrence, the day reminded him of his failures. “I am not an acceptable father,” he said. “I’m not the one who is raising my daughter. I only get to see her a few times every year. The only time I can see her is when we all go on family vacations, or whenever she comes to visit me in Hong Kong.”
As both of Hei-yee’s parents have to travel for their jobs, Hei-yee is left in the care of her grandmother. Lawrence said, “[My daughter] used to be quite attached to me, but now that she’s living with her grandmother, she’s more attached to her. Her grandmother loves her so much. But sometimes, when she doesn’t behave and her grandmother couldn’t handle her, I have to step up as the bad cop. Because of that, she gets quite scared of me. I never hit her! Just yell at her.”
Having experienced two failed marriages, Lawrence said he doesn’t want his daughter to go through the repercussions of a divorced family. He wants to give his daughter a complete life.
“Although we live in different cities, she still doesn’t understand the concept of divorce yet,” said Lawrence. “I want her to learn about it on her own as she grows older. But when she asks me about it, I’ll explain it. Besides, the four of us always go on vacations together, and we’re very happy. It gives her a complete feeling of family.”
Though Hei-yee is used to living without her parents by her side, Lawrence wants nothing more but for his daughter to live happily. “That’s really all I want,” he said. “I want her to be happy. For example, I am willing to spend more money for Hei-yee to go to an international school. I’ve heard from friends that students have a harder time in traditional schools due to the amount of homework, and that stifles their happiness. I want her to have time to do other things, such as piano, sports, or anything else that she’s interested in. A happy life is what I wish for.”

Always nice to have a good relationship with an ex when kids are involved. Glad to see Lawrence is like that.
It seem like they’re at the universal studios feel sorry for the daughter that she doesn’t get to see her daddy much she looks pretty cute. Glad they’re spending a family time together.
@cutie777 this has to be a great arrangement. lawrence and his ex wife and ex mother in law can get together for a holiday. it’s very sad that the daughter don’t get to see her parents often.
