100 Men Apply to Become Cecil Chao’s $500 Million Son-in-Law
Hong Kong tycoon, Cecil Chao (趙世曾), made an outrageous offer to pay $500 million HKD to any man who is able to win his daughter’s hand in marriage. Chao revealed that more than 100 men have applied for the financially rewarding position.
Chao’s “marriage bounty” came after his 33-year-old daughter, Gigi Chao (趙式芝), announced last week that she had married her same-sex partner, Sean Yeung (楊如芯), in April in France. Chao quickly issued a press statement denying that his daughter had married anyone.
Chao Offers $500 Million for Suitable Man
Chao stated, “I had a lengthy discussion with Gigi; she is not a lesbian. I do not think that she has this tendency.” Although Gigi and Sean have dated for seven years, Chao believes that this may be an interim stage, but not her ultimate destiny.
“I will set aside $500 million HKD. You help me find a son-in-law. I hope that my daughter will have a good partner,” Chao had said earlier this week. Since Chao did not care whether his future son-in-law is poor or wealthy, his marriage bounty generated more than 100 mail applicants to respond.
Gigi and Sean Not Legally Married
Sean said, “We are truly in love and wish to make a commitment towards each other. Under the witness of our priest, we signed blessing papers. Although this paper does not bear legal weight, but I regard it as a marriage certificate.”
Although Gigi’s union with Sean did not receive Chao’s blessing, she said this did not affect her love for her father.
A Playboy Tycoon
Chairman of Cheuk Nang Holdings Limited, 76-year-old Cecil Chao has long been dubbed as Hong Kong’s playboy tycoon. Self-proclaiming to have bedded 10,000 women, Chao once said, “If I were to gather them together, it would require the space of an Olympics stadium!”
Chao has three children from three different women. Gigi is born from his past affair with former actress, Yiu Wai (姚煒). Chao also has two sons from his subsequent girlfriends, Ying Ying (盈盈) and Terri Holladay.

I don’t think that’s what drove her into it. I don’t think it’s karma either. It should be coincidence. I have lesbian friends who have good fathers too. In fact, there are many other men outside there that are like Cecil Chao, but their daughters/sons are straight.
Some gay/les people do have it in their genes but we cant deny that some are driven by outside factor. This lady might’ve grown up since little seeing her dad bedding thousands of women and is proud of it and may bring her to unconscioisly feel meh for men. The idea that one can ‘become’ homosexual via observing parental characteristics can lead to the slippery slope argument that homosexuality is some sort of conscious impulse that can be managed or suppressed. People are just born with specific orientations and a steadfast, faithful father is just as likely to have a lesbian daughter as one who sleeps with a different woman every night. And really, I’m not sure why Cecil Chao is being judged so harshly for his sexual habits. Why is that we’re willing to defend female promiscuity as sexual liberation but promiscuous men are still treated as scumbags? He’s an adult and so, presumably, are the women he has relationships with. I could care less what he does in his bedroom.
