Ada Choi: “I’m Not Giving Birth Anymore!”

On March 25, Ada Choi (蔡少芬) underwent a Caesarean section and gave birth to her second daughter Zhang Xiner (張信兒) who weighed 8 lbs and 12 ounces. Wearing a cap and scarf to possibly hide her swelling, Ada left the hospital yesterday in an energetic mood accompanied by her husband Max Zhang (張晉) and manager. Her manager passed out chocolate Easter bunnies to the waiting press. Printed on the gift bags were their new daughter’s birth date and weight.

Ada said, “I had a Caesarean section, because from the experiences of giving birth to my first daughter, I realized I can’t play this game anymore. Last time, I couldn’t give birth for 12 hours, so I asked the doctor for an operation right away this time.” Ada revealed that the reason for a second child is so their elder daughter can have a playmate.

During the birth procedure, only half of Ada’s body was anesthetized, so she was able to witness her baby entering the world. Ada wanted to enjoy each moment, even if it was painful.  Max stood right beside her and captured the entire process with a camcorder. He once again cut his daughter’s umbilical cord. Max mentioned that their second daughter bears a great resemblance to their first daughter, Zoe (張楚兒).

“Zoe is very caring and protective towards her sister. She only allows Max and I to hold her. Her auntie was hit when she wanted to hold the baby,” Ada said. In order to breastfeed the newborn, Ada will be taking a break before heading back to work.

Max had chosen the names for their two daughters. “The word ‘xin’, (信) means to have confidence, to have confidence in God. The word ‘er’ (兒) is also related to God, meaning she is God’s daughter as well as the daughter of the Zhang family, and it’s the same as our first daughter’s,” Max said.

To reward his wife for her efforts, Max will continue working hard this year. He exclaimed that three ladies in the household are enough, and they are not planning for more children.

  3. having baby girls.. will take beauty from mommy. having baby boys.. will take 7 years each (baby boy) of a mum’s lifespan

    1. Lol. Ada is such a great beauty that after giving away her beauty to 2 daughters, she still looks so gorgeous.

    2. Boy or girl will anyhow take away their courageous moms beauty and lifespan.every mom made a non reversible sacrifice when giving birth. So love ya parents!

  4. Awe so cute!
So happy and relieved that both baby and mom is healthy! Ada looks great!

  5. Such an adorable family, good for them! Didn’t Timmy Hung tell Chin Kar Lok something about research study that claims that the happiest families consist of parents with 2 daughters? LoL, if so, then Ada’s family is complete!

I wonder what is the English name of their second daughter? Or maybe Max and Ada haven’t decided on an English yet.

    1. I have never heard of such a thing and my brother’s families all have boys only and they are happy regardless. Who said that having daughters or 2 daughters will mean that your family is the happiest?? I don’t think that is true at all.

      1. LoL. Well, of course it cannot be proven that having daughters will make for a happy family, it’s just something that Timmy Hung said to Chin Kar Lok when Angela Tong gave birth to their daughter – and I found that comment somewhat interesting because most chinese families prefer to have sons over daughters. It could be a genuine research report that Timmy happen to read (who knows where he found it), and he wanted to share it with his friends to encourage them to have more children (another daughter would be lovely!) and Timmy himself also yearned for a daughter.

Also, I’m glad that Ada and Max are contented with their 2 daughters, rather than having an old fashioned thinking that they need to have boys to carry on the family name. It’s rather annoying to hear friends with sons tell you to have more children just because you haven’t had a son yet, as if having a son is better than the daughters you do have. Daughters are usually more filial and family oriented than sons, that’s what I see from my extended family.

    2. Well at least in China currently having daughters mean the government would provide you with every favorable advantage in life as they try to correct the male to female imbalance.

  6. typo – Max and Ada haven’t decided on an English *name* yet.

Ugh. Why isn’t there an edit function for the comment section?
