Celebrity Weddings: Ekin Cheng and Yoyo Mung Married in Tokyo
After months of speculation over their wedding plans, 44-year-old Ekin Cheng (鄭伊健) and 39-year-old Yoyo Mung (蒙嘉慧) got married in Tokyo on January 28, 2013. The couple held a simple 7-table banquet at a beautiful Tokyo castle, inviting their closest friends and family to share their joy. Yoyo choked back tears and Ekin cried emotionally as they made speeches about their love journey before the guests.
Since Ekin Cheng announced in August 2012 that he had proposed to girlfriend of 7 years, Yoyo Mung, the couple had stated that they wished to have a low-profile celebration. Yoyo even considered holding the celebration at home, but the couple finally settled on a destination wedding in Japan, where they frequently traveled with their family. The wedding details were planned by Ekin.
The site of the Tokyo castle was surrounded by fresh flowers and lent an elegant ambiance. French cuisine was served at the wedding. In the photos released to the press, Ekin wore a black tuxedo, while Yoyo appeared in a v-neck black sleeveless dress with her hair pulled back in a simple bun.
Invitation to Mysterious Wedding
One month ago, the couple suddenly sent mysterious invitations to guests, instructing them to meet for dinner in Tokyo on the specified date. Ekin’s manager, Lam San San (林珊珊), said, “Ekin’s notice said: ‘Do you have time to meet for dinner?’ About a week ago, Ekin asked: ‘Do you have time for dinner? In Tokyo?’ Understanding Ekin’s nature and the urgency in the invitation, San San immediately booked a flight and did not ask further questions.
Since the guests were not notified that they would in fact be attending Ekin and Yoyo’s wedding, many dressed casually and did not even bring gifts. The invited guests also did not know who the other guests at the wedding would be.
“The most emotional moment of the evening came when Ekin addressed Yoyo as, ‘My Wife’ and friends, Jerry Lamb (林曉峰) and Chan Kwong Wing (陳光榮) called Yoyo, ‘Sister-in-Law’. This is how a beautiful evening concluded,” Lam San San said.
Friends Send Their Blessings
Prior to meeting Yoyo, Ekin had several high-profile relationships Luisa Maria Leitão (黎芷珊), Maggie Shiu (邵美琪), and Gigi Leung (梁詠琪). Ekin and Gigi were rumored to have broken up because he did not wish to get married. After news surfaced that Ekin had gotten married in Tokyo last night, Luisa, Maggie and Gigi graciously sent their blessings to the newlyweds.
Ekin’s wedding came as a surprise to many. However, the groom was known for his low-key personality. Arriving in Shanghai from Hong Kong last night, Jordan Chan (陳小春) was unable to attend Ekin’s Tokyo wedding celebration. Since Jordan’s wife, Cherie Ying (應采兒) is currently 3 months pregnant, Jordan laughed that Ekin should congratulate him as a father-to-be first before sending blessings to the newlyweds.
Introducing Ekin to Yoyo at a badminton game, “matchmaker” Lai Lok Yi (黎諾懿) knew 2 months ago that the couple planned to get married in Tokyo. Due to work schedule conflicts, Lai Lok Yi regrettably could not attend the wedding.
Ekin Announces Marriage
On January 28, Ekin uploaded photos of a pair of bride-and-groom teddy bears and wrote, “We have entered a new chapter in life. I’m thankful! From now on, we will not be alone anymore! Thank you!”

After Maggie which was such an open blatant exploitation by Yee Meen, Gigi should have as a traditional Chinese girl NOT have dated him and that was what a lot of people were voicing but she gave in and then he did it to her too – so in order to save his repuation (I think Hong Kong people were ready to permanently label him) – he stuck with Yoyo but the public distaste never totally went away and then people started questioning whether he was forever going to “date” this one. At 44, it’s not as bad as Do Duk Wai at 50 but really, he would have married her already if he were sincere or are we supposed to believe that he waited until Gigi married before tying the knot himself like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. I think the whole thing sounds not so ideal but yee Mean is very boring to me so I dont care but he and Roland and Stephen Chow and probably Stephen Fung are users. They just don’t want to be unemployable since they are reliant on public opinion.

I admire Athena Chu despite her domestic bliss for maintaining that Stephen Chow is unforgivable. She is an example for society because Hong Kong boys – Cantonese boys – are good talkers and will ruin a girl and it doesn’t help if public figures are giving in left and right. Maggie could have stayed silent.

I liked her in PTU but I remember not liking Ekin immediately and as young person being disturbed that his girlfriend at the time (Maggie) was OLDER (by two years) because someone like that sounds like a user (Sean Lennon) and the woman an idiot (Cibo Matto but also a user). Even though China always publishes stories about old couples where the wife is older by a few years, I have always thought that sounded incomprehensible like Gwyneth Paltrow with Coldplay. There’s always a chance that all these impure celebrity stories are just cautionary tales for the general public – maybe all of them are truly in love – after all, Lau Ching Wan, Lee Hok Ken, etc. all married their single long term girlfriends – I think that Yee Mean is not like them at all which is very worrying.
Gigi was such a case study in a young girl having her integrity tested that I wish she had never been toyed with and was just part of some publicity campaign to educate the young and clueless otherwise her emotional devastation is grievous. Does it make any sense that Sammi Cheng and Andy Hui suffered a break. I hope that’s not really true but then Wong Faye’s eldest daughter looks like her first husband so that must be true and Stanley Ho does have multiple children with different wives. I think the lookalike by-blows are the undeniable evidence sadly of bad characters.
I wish all the celebrity news was faked – I do read stuff from America and Hollywood thinking that they can’t possibly true.
Maybe Kenny Wee and Eric Tsang are in it together to cement this drug taking incident involving Josie Ho in the memory of the general public – but I doubt that.
I couldn’t care less about Ekin Cheng, that no-talent heart-breaker who just had a lucky break with those Young and Dangerous movies. He’s got a poor singing voice and is a stiff actor, and not even good looking to me. Don’t know what the young and beautiful Maggie saw in him during the early 90s when she was at the peak of her career.
So, like Primrose, I won’t wish him ‘happiness’ because of all the hurt and anguish he caused Maggie by his heartless and selfish way of dumping her for Gigi Leaung, and his general doucheness overall. I never liked Gigi Leung after she became the third party between Maggie and him either. What goes around comes around. Serves Gigi right for being played by Ekin too. It’s true that Maggie has aged a lot in her 40s and she seemed to let herself go. She was really pretty when she was younger though. I have to say it would be ‘Ronald Cheng’? you know the ex hub of twins ah sa? That guy has a singing voice that can make a ugly song into an OK song but surpringly i heard hes not at all popular since on this forum, it’s always Eason Chan and Joey Yung winning?? I dont get Eason’s voice either but HK ppl have such weird tastes sometimes so i would say ‘LUCK n CONNECTIONS’ play a big role in showbiz period…..

Hmm, I’m the same as you really….not too much into Cantopop nowadays. I used to be a big fan of Leslie Cheung, Faye Wong and Jackie Cheung back in the 80s-90s. Ronald Cheng? Haven’t heard him sing, only watched his dumb comedies, lol, but I’m suprised that you say he sounds good. Haha, I’ll check him out next time. Eason Chan is good but a bit overrated, I guess you can call him a poor man’s version of Jackie Cheung. It’s very true that ‘Luck & Connections’ play a big part in showbiz, whether it’s in HK or Hollywood.

haha LOL, i am diff w/u on the views on asian films since i only watch their TV series i skip on all films cuz i dislike them immensely. i watched a few here and then back in the days and i think they are so dump and stupid i mean not that some american films are not pure trash as well but HK ones are just like you said dumb comedies mostly haha…but i do watch some fighting ones here n there but i dont see anything these days.
Ronald Cheng, the reason i say his voice is good is this really old series he was in n he was hardly in since i heard hes from a rich family so dont need to be popular at all in HK to survive, anyway, this series he was in n he sang the theme song, let me tell u the song SUCKS but his nice n clear voice helped the song alot so i think he does have a voice in my opinion only i guess since hes NOT at all popular in the music scene in HK. haha everytime i clicked on this forum, this Eason n Joey are always winning like every other artist out there are dead haha…lol..
