Donnie Yen to Film “Ip Man 4” in April; Story to Focus on Bruce Lee Arc

Donnie Yen (甄子丹) and his wife, Cecilia Wang (汪詩詩), attended a post Lunar New Year gathering with their managed artistes. Aside from taking a few days off to visit his family in Australia in February, Donnie has been busy with work. Set to start filming Ip Man 4 <葉問4> in April, Donnie revealed that he will have a busy year ahead filled with Hong Kong and Hollywood film projects.

Accepting $100 million HKD to resume the iconic wing chun martial artist role, Donnie will be filming Ip Man 4 in the United States. Donnie said, “I spoke with director Wilson Yip (葉偉信) on the phone, but I’m not clear about all the details of the movie. I can only say that in the new movie, Ip Man will be looking for [his disciple] Bruce Lee in the United States.”

Since Ip Man’s wife died in the previous installment, actress Lynn Hung (熊黛林) will not return in the new film. Asked if he will have another romantic arc instead, Donnie joked that he will make the suggestion to the director. When prompted by reporters that his wife, Cecilia, can make an appearance in the film, Donnie said, “Of course not, she needs to help manage my company!”

Artistes Jessica Jann (湛琪清) and Kent Tong‘s (湯鎮業) twin sons, Bruce Tong (湯君慈) and Chris Tong (湯加耀), are currently managed by Donnie’s company. Donnie praised the twins, “I filmed an inspirational movie with them earlier. The movie should be released in the summer. The boys are well-behaved and handsome; hope everyone can give them a chance.”

Working on four filming projects this year, Donnie will have little time to spend with his wife. Asked how he will make it up to Cecilia, he said, “I don’t know. I have already given her everything I have. Nothing is more important than health and family.”
