Myolie Wu to Make Hong Kong TV Comeback with New ViuTV Drama

Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) will be making her Hong Kong TV drama comeback with the upcoming ViuTV drama Suk Nui Keung Yan <熟女強人> (literally “Mature Strong Woman”), in which she plays a sex therapist.

The former TVB actress’s last HK TV drama appearance was in 2016’s No Reserve <巾幗梟雄之諜血長天>, which was shot in 2013.

Suk Nui Keung Yan is a procedural drama that focuses on mature and sensitive topics involving sexuality and marriage, including egg freezing, sex addition, and wife swapping.

Carrie Ng (吳家麗), Jeana Ho (何珮瑜), Karena Ng (吳千語), Sharon Luk (陸詩韻), and Golden Horse and HKFA Best Actor nominee Tommy Chu (朱柏康) costar in the series produced by Ng Kin-hung (伍健雄). Filming has already begun a few days ago.

Speaking about working with Myolie, Producer Ng said, “She is an actress I’ve always admired. . . .[T]he role of ‘Chui Ching’ and her background is completely different from her own, so an actor, that is a great opportunity for a new challenge.”

According to the producer, Chui Ching is a professional sex therapist whose life is disrupted after discovering her husband’s affair. In the midst of helping her own clients, Ching has to fight for her own independence and custody rights.

“I’ve always been into dramas that deal with topics like femininity,” said Myolie. “This time my role is a kind of character that I’ve always wanted to play. This is my first time playing a psychologist. While the role is challenging, I also get to work with actors I haven’t worked with before. It’s definitely a very fresh look.”

  1. The cast looks better than anything TVB can churn out these days even though I haven’t watched any Cantonese shows in a long time.

    1. @anon Not just the cast, but the themes and story too. The difference is that ViuTV is willing to take risks for one, which means they are willing to explore topics that TVB shies away from, and two, they don’t do artist management, which gives them the freedom to work with any artists they want to. I personally prefer ViuTV’s more inventive series to TVB’s current formulaic series.
