Theaters Reopen in China

As COVID-19 continues to spread across the world, many businesses have been incurring it’s wrath including movie theaters. After a long period of lockdown, the number of virus cases in China have been subsiding and 486 theaters have received permission to re-open. Unfortunately, the effect of the virus is still strong. According to statistics, on the day of re-opening, only $13,800 in ticket sales were made. Theaters in Guangzhou and Henan made no money in sales!

This is understandable as movie goers are most likely staying home and afraid of a second wave of the virus. Another factor is that there have been no new movies opening as many production companies have been delaying releases.

Many theaters are replaying old movies like American Dreams in China <中国合伙人> and The Wandering Earth <流浪地球>. Ip Man 4 <葉問4:完結篇 >, which was originally released last December has also extended its run until April 25.
