Summer Performs “Bodyguards and Assassins” TV Drama Promo Single

Acclaimed mainland Chinese singer, Summer (吉克隽逸), released her latest single, “Moon Reaches the Sky’s Center” <月到天心处>, the promotional single for The Stand-In <十月围城>, the mainland Chinese television adaptation of the 2009 award-winning Hong Kong film, Bodyguards and Assassins.

Demonstrating a cantilena-style of singing, with the backing of traditional Chinese instrumentals, “Moon Reaches the Sky’s Center” shows a stark contrast from Summer’s earlier music. With her soulful voice, Summer is best known for her trendy beats and powerful melodies. Nonetheless, Summer garnered praises from music critics soon after releasing the Chinese ballad.

One critic praised that though Summer often portrayed herself as a fashionable and international icon, she also showed a traditional Chinese side with her new single.

The lyrics of “Moon Reaches the Sky’s Center” are written by Taiwanese lyricist Yao Chien (姚謙), who drew inspiration from the poems of Song Dynasty poet, Shao Yong. Yao Chien expressed that out of all the lyrics he has written for Summer, the lyrics to “Moon Reaches the Sky’s Center” was his favorite.

The Stand-In stars Wallace Chung (鍾漢良), Ng Man-tat (吳孟達), Zhang Xiaolong (张晓龙), Liu Xiaoxiao (刘筱筱), and Wu Gang (吴刚). Tagged as Youku’s most highly-anticipated television drama of 2014, The Stand-In is slated to premiere on Anhui TV.
