Cecilia Cheung’s Father Missing After Cheating 2 Million RMB

Cecilia Cheung’s (張柏芝) father Cheung Yan Yung (張仁勇), known as “Bearded Yung (Bravery)” in the underground triad community, is once again in conflict with the law. For the past week, posters of Cheung’s portrait, which read “Cecilia’s Father Conned 2 million RMB in the mainland” were plastered all over the buildings and walls in the districts of Central and Wan Chai. A huge seven-foot long poster was also hung on the columns next to the World-Wide House office building in Central.

It was reported that Cheung, while doing business in mainland China earlier, conned a business partner for at least 2 million RMB last month. Cheung then went missing after the con act.

Cecilia’s 54-year-old father was previously arrested by the Hong Kong police department for suspicion of criminal intimidation last August. Cheung was suspected for splashing red paint in the storefronts of two retail shops in the Yau Ma Tei district. He was later released without charge.

Cheung is a well-known figure in the underground triad community. Cheung was once an active leader who guarded the territories in Yau Ma Tei. He was also notorious for his gambling obsession. In 1999, a few months after Cecilia’s debut in the entertainment industry, enemy triads publicly threatened his daughter with rape when Cheung failed to pay his gambling debts.

Allegedly, Cecilia was often left with the task of paying her father’s debts. Recently, Cecilia announced that she will place all her concentration and efforts on caring for her sons, Lucas and Quintus.

Reporters phoned Cecilia’s younger brother, Ronnie Cheung (張柏文), about his father’s debt rumors. He briefly responded, “I don’t know,” and quickly hung up the phone.

i really don’t know how to sympathise with her father.

being in traid is ok. being a gambler is also ok. as long as a person has the will to change and cares for his family.

but he seems to me to be a person dragging his family down everytime assuming they will help him because they are his children, which i think is inexcusable.

being a father is to take care of your children and not making troubles and let your children take care of you.

      forgive me for my rant.

Being in a triad is okay……NOT.

These monsters terrorize and threaten others to have their own way. They bully, beat, steal from, rape and sometimes even kill innocent victims. They make the lives of ex triad members a living hell when those ex members decide they want out. I haven’t even begun to describe the horrors of their, the triads’ actions. How can being in a triad be okay?.

ok doesn’t always means ok. (sarcastic ok/least acceptable ok)

i don’t mean ok/great for the society but just ok/acceptable from a child and parent perspective.

nobody wishes/prefers a traid parent if they can choose but if you unfortunately have one but one who cares for his child than thats the least acceptable from a child perspective.

however if you have a parent who is traid and who doesn’t care for a child and creating huge problems for his child to solve everytime. than thats inexcusable.

I didn’t know that she was a triad’s daughter. She doesn’t deserve her financial success then. As a member of the receiving end of organized crime bullying, I can tell you that they are unforgivable even in small acts of terrifying store keepers by asking for money and selling overpriced mooncakes and fruit trees as well as scaring young kids.

That’s harsh = no child has a choice in deciding which father she wanted to be born to. Or why her parents’ marriage fell apart.

Her life was subsidized by blood money at least in the beginning of her life before she became an earner, correct? Her parents were involved in terrorizing the innocent and vulnerable, correct?

that means they OWE the rest of society – they shouldn’t be allowed to set aside a portion of their extorted revenue to buy milk money for a baby they chose to create.

She also continued to subsidized his lifestyle instead of letting him take the consequences of the choices he has made in his life, correct? Does she also give some of her income to anyone her father victimized? They can’t all have been fellow criminals.

Now I know why she was cast as that character in “Running on Karma.”

He may have just swindled more people precisely because she prolonged is viability instead of letting him face the music and shortening his career. If she hadn’t saved him, he could have left town and become a regular coolie overseas just like everyone else. I don’t see Cheung Pak Chi bailing out innocent people from violent criminals – she protected the guilty because he is on her team and that means her team is polluted – not normal respectable Chinese at all.

Save your sympathy for the coolie with the sixth grade education who has to go down to a gambling den for the first time in his life to save his worthless estranged father’s life earning an undeserved lifelong reputation for being arrogant in the process because they didn’t like someone who talked back when he handed over all his savings in cash.

By paying for his debts, she saved him from a beating or worse and allowing him to remain in good health so that he could go out and cheat someone else as he may have done now if that signage reflects the truth.

@Cloud – that’s a very manipulative response – basically, you are wuk gun ngor. I don’t care what either of those two are THINKING. I am writing about what they have done.

        @Cloud

This is clearly not a love union because they are no longer together so regardless of intentions, he married lightly so most definitely Nicolas Tse has to bear responsibility for creating two more Triad descendants and enriching the life of the daughter of a Triad (although now it can be interpreted that he sabotaged her) and the in-laws. Character IS genetic – that is what we are seeing with the Japanese scions of the warmongers and that is what we have already seen with Cheung Pak Chi – she’s not exactly a sweetheart in the way she deals with others – she tends to be rude and mocking and she enjoys being with likeminded hyena type young people.

He also lied about his family connection so they offered him the post of mole to punish him.

People like that are nothing like the real children who have to try and save their self destructive parents from gambling debts. NOTHING at all like the real good guys.

I would have to agree with CLEO on most if not all she’s said. Why? Truth hurts, and many people hide behind the so called “benefit of the doubt” instead of clearly seeing people for who they really are and call a spade a spade. Everyone deserves a chance and Cecilia has been given that regardless of who her relations are. She should count herself as lucky. The bad karma that flows in her life is due to her parents as it follows most people throughout their lives. It happens to all of us. Sometimes to end the cycle you have to make harsh decisions to make things right. Her dad needs to face his evil once and for all and the family should make him do so if by turning him in or not enabling.
Please don’t waste pity on the Cheung clan, put pity where it is most deserving and that’s with the families that were affected or may have been destroyed by the triad activity.

What’s frightening is how many extended family members are running the production companies related to not only the more well known HO wives but to the first wife as well and then there are multiple lesbian relationships crossing these hanjian and celebrity groups not just Yu Jung and Pansy Ho. Hong Kong is very tangled up with the Ho family but frankly, they are not ordinary Hong Kong people’s cup of tea. I can understand the nostalgia for Winner that makes it hard to side with spendthrift Teresa over Ah Bee but the Ho liaisons are very scary and it’s bad for Hong Kong. God knows what the real story is there but definitely, the Chinese government and the Hong Kong government, the Canadian government and the American government are not fond of that family no matter how many accolades they may pass on to them.

Don’t forget that we feel differently about people who are really clean and respectable in Hong Kong although they may be entertainers. Cecelia Cheung is no Josphine Siao – she may not even be Yun Lei who was raped when she was on a concert tour in Asean but still has not made a show of violence other than having a big mouth – Yun Lei is not the scary kind who can make sure that you will find yourself taught a lesson if you offend her like Fay Fay Mamasan might have and plenty of people cried at HER funeral but I bet many former ingenues now matrons stayed home and didn’t shed a tear. We don’t think Wong Meng Choon would resort to triads to correct your manners, do we? But we definitely think Josie Ho would.

So let’s be CLEAR about what kind of stock Cheung Pak Chi comes from. If you have never been bullied by triad, you should look closer at what their intimidation really feels like before you decide that CPC had no choice in being born into her family. She helps her dad – that does not make amends for the victims of her dad nor does it absolve her that she likes puppies – so did Hitler.

@Cleo: So were you bullied by triads before? I think what people are trying to say along with myself is she clearly did not choose to be born as her father’s daughter… unless there happens to be hidden technology where before the fetus develops, someone or some entity allowed her to choose which father to have.

Also, seeing from your comments and your half relevant details, CPC is suppose to watch her father get slaughtered and not bail him out? Please know, no matter how you feel, with a conscience or not, the right to life is greater than law. As his daughter, I believe she is obligated to aid her father regardless what kind of disgusting and atrocious man he maybe even if he’s associated with the triads. You can call the father whatever you please and probably no one will object, but to say CPC doesn’t deserve what she has achieved so far because of her father…wtf? Her father is her father. CPC is CPC.

    • Cleo replied:

Do you think CPC’s father hugs and cuddles his extortion targets into paying him? Was that a free paint job for those shopkeepers whose families were permanently cheered up by seeing it including the elderly and young members?

She is subsidizing his tactics – what happens when they won’t pay or can’t pay – does she compensate them for the financial and physical price that her father wreaks upon them as if he were some autistic relative who breaks vases in shops and just needs a minder with a checkbook? If you stand up for CPC supporting her father and saving him so he can live to bully another day, why don’t you put your own safety where your mouth is and offer to take the target position the next time that CPC’s father does his “job.” – when it happens to you, tell the police that you don’t mind, it’s just gong woo stuff, you’re aware of their nobility and right to act anyway they wish. Are you so snowed by gong woo films that you actually have no sense of right and wrong? Were you raised by your parents and teachers to behave like this yourself? Probably not but ever since Chow Yun Fat in his trench coat directed by John woo made it seem like the leading man as a gangster was acceptable, some Chinese people have gotten it twisted. Some but not ALL Chinese people lost their minds from the safety of their own homes. When it’s you or your precious family totally innocent who has to see the world in its true light, will you really defend CPC subsidizing her father’s activities? She NEVER bothers with his immorality, she only minds that she is losing financially from ongoing caretaking. That is not a good sign for her character.

Omg!! You clearly missed everything that has been said. Not having the right to choose your parents is a given. What IS important is how you choose to live your life. Its Unfortunate to have a murderer for a mother, its a travesty and downright shame to enable her or protect her for the crimes she has continually committed. Acting as if her crimes has nothing to do with you and not trying to make ammends makes life more difficult because people will remain to have a bad impression of you and what your family represents. It follows you, hence her bad karma. It was not Cecilia doing the actually crimes and that’s why the sins of her parents have fallen on she and the family. That’s life! That’s why we must all try to live better and be better towards each other.

Yes, you and all the others were right in sayng CPC did not choose to be born as her father’s daughter. No one should dispute that.
However, I can see Cleo’s point of view as well. Her father had a choice to choose his path in life and he did. He had no thought or consideration for the safety of his family when he decided to become a part of a ruthless group, who lack consciences. If CPC continues to bail her father out, she will need all the movie roles she can get. The monetary demands will get higher, and higher and she will continue to pay to save his skin, while his victims receive nothing and continue to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives.

Does this man realise the difficult position he has put his daughter in with his choices in life??. I don’t think he does, or cares.

I did not object to Cleo’s point of view, obviously that is his opinion on the matter. However, to strip CPC’s successes, fame and the money she earned solely because her father is a triad member… and her being his offspring, that is out of line. Like I said earlier, you can blame the man however you want, his decisions, his atrocious demeanor towards other lives due to his affiliations with the triad and his family, that is him. It has nothing to do with CPC. And of course, many can argue she can just let him wander out there, but as his daughter, WHAT DO PEOPLE EXPECT HER TO DO? To be rip herself of her own conscience and let her father burn and die? No matter, how many outsiders agree or worship that the man is beyond saving, that is still her father.

@Shame, it is true he is her father, and she is not going to let him be killed by the evil that he himself is also a part of. at least she has a conscience towards her loved one. Her father did not have a conscience about how his decisions would impact the lives of his family. I just hope she does not have to spend the rest of her life bailing this POS out.

Also, I do hope CPC the best and find a way to devoid herself from her father’s selfish ways.

@shame, You do not want to contradict yourself. You said she is not going to let her father burn and die. You were very emphatic about her not giving up on her dad, because, after all, he is her dad. so having said what I said, I see no easy way for CPC to devoid herself from her father’s selfish ways.

He knows she loves him and will bail his corrupt carcass out of any jam and he is using it to his advantage. He will play on her love and compassion for years to come. I agree with Cleo that if CPC is going to spend money bailing this piece of crap out all the time, for the evil acts and havoc he has wrecked on people’s lives, then she should should be compassionate towards his victims. They too, should be given some form of monetary compensation . At least it will go towards helping them to start getting back on their feet.

      @Trini

Who are his victims you are talking about? have they step out? Are you privy to any inside information? It’s said that Cecilia paid her father’s debts before, so for the people he conned, how do you know they won’t be given monetary compensation?

Frankly, I don’t see why Cleo has to go on an extreme tirade against Cecilia with tons of unrelated issues, like Japanese and bla bla. We can’t choose if we are born to the queen of England or a drug dealer. No one can. She was basically bashing Cecilia for drinking milk from blood money! As though a baby knows how to say NO. As she grows older, how do you know she doesn’t try to convince her father to turn over a new leaf? From the way he acts, do you think he will listen to anyone? or is actually a good person?

Honestly, if it’s YOUR father, tell me, what options will you have? Put a notice in the newspaper saying that you are disowning him?

Just have to compare another triad’s offspring with Cecilia, since her news was in Jaynestars today. Makiyo is a daughter of a japanese triad member. Look at the bloodthirsty way she kicked and stomped over that poor cab driver. The way she tries to brings her mother’s illness for sympathy, and even said that the money used to pay off the cab driver’s family, was actually for the mother’s treatment. Did Cecilia show cruelty in such ways? Sure, she’s a wild girl, and definitely not perfect, and I’m definitely not a fan, but condemning her for her father’s act is absolutely sick.

Nicole, if you have a beef with Cleo, address Cleo, not me. Where in any of my comments do I condemn Cecilia for her father’s actions?. Where do I judge her for being her father’s daughter?. NOWHERE.

I actually feel sorry for CC, because this man is using her love for him to pay off his low life underworld debts. You said something that is ironic. If CC has asked her dad to turn over a new leaf, obviously he has not listened, now has he….Nicole???. Hell nooooNicole let me ask you, how mant triad victims come forward, unless they have the protection and backing from a more powerful organization?. How many Nicole???,how many???

I am not part of the triads , but I know how these ruthless basta*ds operate. YEESS, I have first hand knowledge.

Well Nicole, you addressed me, I responded, no hard feelings, peace out, and have a nice week.

I’m surprised that Cold War got such a favorable reception given such tolerance for family members who are criminals. My family won’t even meet with a distant cousin whose father’s brain exploded and DIED when she was impregnated by a Japanese classmate in the generation after WW2 – not exactly Faye Wong’s “love story” in 2046. Leung Chiu Wai’s character in Mo Gan Do may have made a show about not consorting with his father when he was enrolled in the police academy but he still drove a Benz.

CPC can’t protect a bully – his crimes do not take place only within fellow bullies as his past arrest indicates. She has already supported a bully in the past and she really thinks she will never have to know what that feels like when someone twists her babies’ daddy’s arm in the future because she is a protected species?

What makes you think Chinese families allow the daughter of a triad – do they then defend their approval to relatives and neighbors – do you really not know the private standards of ordinary Chinese? Triads are FORBIDDEN. Dek Bor Lai was raised by a hostess and her husband is just a tedious celebrity with a known fondness for ladies but not for private family nesting like Dek Lung – basically Nicolas Tse is himself not qualified to be all that picky. If he wasn’t a celeb, he wouldn’t be an aristocrat now he gets to have money and at least bite on his molars and flare his nostrils to imitate what he believes “yee hay” looks like.

Traditional POOR Cantonese families don’t want triad members nor do they even want someone who has ever worked as a servant for a complicated family like the Hos because the most important thing for a daughter in law is that she be CLEAN in character and for some ABSURD reason, being descended from a triad member or a Japanese CANCELS that out. Do you really think anyone cares for Agnes Chan or her progeny. Julian Hui really did not want to marry Pansy Ho – that whole family’s many daughters are not that eligible – it’s fine to want their money but your offspring will never be accepted. It’s not racism – there are plenty of hybrids who flourished within the Chinese world. Character will ruin your bloodline and THAT is why Michelle Reis’ in-laws are suffering.

Why do I bring up Japanese when I comment on HONG KONG triads – because the yakuza are embedded in Hong Kong. Congratulations for not noticing. HK and Mainland authorities are acting like they don’t notice while they fight an ongoing war – it’s not just in Mongkok or Wanchai. You don’t notice – that’s your problem. Those sushi restaurants aren’t making back their rent but they are all over the place. Congratulations on 7-11 letting you pay your utilities bill for free with your octopuss card. Smile for the camera – Japan thinks it has nearly perfect control in Hong Kong where the people appear to be more selfish and willing to work for Japanese than even in seemingly-admiring Taiwan. But do you really think all that Harbor development and CURTAIN walls of apartment complexes have nothing to do with warfare whils the middle of Hong Kong lay fallow. How about encouraging everyone to take hikes into the so-called hinterlands. There is so much being manipulated with regard to Hong Kong real estate to counter organized Japanese maneuvers in the territory. Look at the map and then ask yourself why would Beijing princelings overpay $88 million for a Henderson flat ugly decorated that they never use?

        triad = hanjian = yakuza

“three years eight months” – do you really think Stanley Ho was just helping to feed Macau during that time? He wouldn’t be rich if he had been. Many guerilla fighters in Hong Kong were just ordinary people – they didn’t profit from it. Do you think there is no Japanese money in Macau? Why do you think it is never Japanese who get caught when they confiscate drug deals?

      Trini,

When I said I hope she is able to devoid herself I meant it as perhaps one day she can find a way to fully convince her father to free himself from his devilish ways or avoid all of this without sacrificing her father’s life. Thats why I said hope as it is nothing more than hope since it isnt easy to find a way out for such matters.

In 1999, Cecilia bailed her father out from rival triads. This news article didn’t explain the full story. Cecilia’s father ordered somebody to beat up his rival triads after some disagreements, which then the rival triads ordered a rape and kill order on her. It was only then that she finally reconnected with her father. He went to prison and she had lost contact with him for a very long time. She did not bail him out. About this recent incident, how do we know if she’s bailing him out? He ran away. And the partner that he conned, why did he work with Cecilia’s father whom he clearly knew was a former triad and committed crimes last year? That partner isn’t innocent either and knew what he was getting into.
