Cecilia Cheung’s Pragmatic Approach to Love

Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒) recently wrapped up his four-day run of concerts. Apart from his performance, his past stories and romantic history was brought up once again. Unsurprisingly, people revisited Nicholas’ passionate past with ex-wife Cecilia Cheung (張栢芝), which eventually ended with him returning to his ex-girlfriend, Faye Wong (王菲). Faye was spotted at Nicholas’s concert recently, subtly showing support and affirming their stable relationship. In contrast, Cecilia Cheung has not publicly acknowledged any romantic relationships since the divorce. Even after giving birth to her third son a few years ago, Cecilia never revealed the identity of the father, keeping her love life a mystery.
Cecilia is now primarily focused on developing her career in China. She openly discussed her views on love, “Twenty years ago, I was already portraying a love-obsessed girl. Now I won’t cling onto a man. When I feel heartbroken or upset, I’d just cry at home. I won’t cry in front of him or arrange to meet just to cry.”
Cecilia reflected on two of her iconic film roles, Jeannie from 12 Nights <12夜> and Lau Piu Piu from King of Comedy <喜劇之王>. She shared that her personality is not like Jeannie and actually more similar to Lau Piu Piu, “I’d seem fine in front of the guy I like but once I get in the taxi, I’d cry uncontrollably.” She hopes 12 Nights can help women understand that some relationships that seem really important at one time may turn out to be not important at all. She added insightfully, “Only one thing about love can hurt you and that’s unwillingness to let go. If you can’t get past yourself, that’s when you cause yourself pain.”
Cecilia had a rich romantic history when she was younger. Besides Daniel Chan (陳曉東) and Nicholas Tse, she was also rumored to be linked with Jason Chu (朱永棠), Jordan Chan (陳小春), and Edison Chen (陳冠希). She once admitted that her love life was tough, “Even when I was very busy with work, I still found time to think about him or talk to him.” But after going through so many ups and downs, her perspective on love has changed. She now says, “When it comes to love, it’s not that I don’t need it or that it’s not important, I just don’t have time.” Everyone knows that Cecilia is deeply devoted to her children. Since becoming a mother, she genuinely doesn’t have time for romantic relationships. Even if she were to make time, love just doesn’t play as big a role in her life as it once did.
When asked by how she maintains her optimism, Cecilia said her mother taught her from a young age that “We’re born into this world alone, so there’s no need to be upset over people we don’t even know…. This is your life. As long as you know how to make yourself happy, even the harshest words, I’ll just treat them like someone is singing a song.”
Since Cecilia has lived in Shanghai, Singapore, and Canada, she feels like a bird that can fly. Being exposed to different environments has helped Cecilia realize that many things she once obsessed over can be let go.

Good to see that she is now mature enough to keep her love-life out of the entertainment industry, and to work hard on her own………Can’t say the same for Faye Wong, acting like a total idiotic woman, dancing around to her boy-toy’s songs, and afraid that people don’t know they are together………..Give it a few more years, and Faye will need daily botox to keep her face young enough around little Nicky.
boy toy lol….haha Definitely not like father like son thou….Oldie loves younger women the younger the better while son likes them Older. lol
