Hidden Talents of 9 Chinese Idols

Many Chinese celebrities are multi-talented as they dabble across different areas of entertainment. But some extend further to other fields, such as playing the piano, drawing, racing, sculpting, and martial arts. While their attractive looks are often the focal aspect, it is also interesting to learn of their less recognized but highly admirable hidden talents.

Here are the following nine Chinese idols with surprising gifts:

Dilraba Dilmurat (迪丽热巴) – Grade 10 Piano

Dilraba’s parents have always paid extra attention to cultivating her artistic capabilities in areas such as the violin, piano, folk dance, Latin dance, and more. With great versatility, Dilraba has often showcased her excellent dancing skills on TV. It is possibly why the actress is more known for her dancing abilities than the fact that she is a grade 10 piano player. Dilraba previously showed off her piano skills in one of Love Designer‘s <幸福,觸手可及> behind-the-scenes video.

Deng Lun (邓伦) – High Jumper

In a sports segment of variety show Happy Camp <快樂大本營>, Deng Lun shocked everyone by effortlessly jumping over the 1.7-meter bar. He revealed, “I was a high jumper 15 years ago. I debuted in the sports world through the high jump.” When everyone expressed their awe, he boasted, “During elementary school, my high jump score was 1.64 meters.”

Yang Mi (杨幂) – Manga Artist

A skilled illustrator, Yang Mi often shares her artwork online. She mainly draws manga characters with a ballpoint pen, demonstrating that she does not need to draft her work. Also, the actress is a huge video gamer. She even joined Li Xian (李現) for an online game of Honor of Kings <王者榮耀>.

Jackson Yee (易烊千璽) – Calligraphy and Sculpting

Aside from dominating music charts, dance shows, and the box office, Jackson also possesses strong calligraphy skills. He has been practicing calligraphy since he was 10 years old. With clean and elegant penmanship, his work is almost of professional level. He even has some of his calligraphy hung up in the Embassy of Denmark in China. On top of that, he is talented in the art of sculpting. He designed and produced a 3.5-meter-high sculpture for his coming-of-age ceremony.

Zhang Xincheng (張新成) – Grade 10 Piano

Xincheng is another amazing pianist who has frequently displayed his piano skills on TV. In his drama Symphony’s Romance <蝸牛與黃鸝鳥>, he performed all the piano scenes himself. He also acquired other talents at a young age, including dancing, guitar, singing, and music composition.

Zhang Yuxi (張予曦) – Drawing

Better known for being an internet celebrity-turned-actress and Chinese billionaire heir Wang Sicong‘s (王思聰) ex-girlfriend, many rarely noticed the actress’s drawing talents. Last year, she demonstrated her incredible artistic abilities by posting her works on Weibo.

Song Weilong (宋威龍) – Martial Arts

The actor garnered attention for his savviness in martial arts during his debut. At the age of nine, he had insisted his parents take him to Shaolin Temple to learn martial arts. After watching The Shaolin Temple <少林寺>, Weilong became passionate about learning kung fu and set Jet Li (李連杰) as his role model. The temple is well-known for being tough and is not an easy place to train, so his endurance is inspiring.

Liu Tao (劉濤) – Racing

While Wang Yibo‘s (王一博) past as a winning competitive racer is quite known in the show biz, he is not the first artiste who belonged in the racing world. Liu Tao was also a great racer back in the days. Her superb driving skills earned her the nickname “Female Schumacher.” She also won the women’s racing championships in 2006 and was hailed the “Queen of Car Racing in China.”

Ning Jing (寧靜) – Animator

Gaining popularity after participating in popular survival program Sisters Who Makes Waves <乘風破浪的姐姐>, netizens dug up Ning Jing’s background and discovered that she used to work as an animator before debuting in the industry. She also learned gymnastics, dance, martial arts, and other high-intensity sports when she was young.
