Malaysian-native Serene Lim (林宣妤) finally made her Hong Kong acting debut in TVB drama Girlie Days <她她她的少女時代> two years after winning first runner-up in the Miss Chinese International Pageant 2017. Netizens noticed her performance in the show and labeled her as the new generation of goddesses. Yesterday, Serene attended a promotional event for the drama and revealed she had a happy time shooting Girlie Days.
“I didn’t know a lot in the beginning, but I was able to work with Stitch Yu (余思霆) and Iris Lam (林凱恩) and we got pretty close,” Serene shared. “In the drama, we were three college students living and playing together.”
She added that costar Iris taught her Cantonese, as Mandarin was used back when she was acting in Malaysia. Although the actress humbly said that her Cantonese is lacking, she must’ve put in a lot of work behind the scenes because her pronunciation is not bad. Serene attributed it to watching a lot of Hong Kong dramas while in Malaysia. “I even practiced my dialogue in the shower because I wanted to improve!” Serene expressed.
As a newcomer, she hopes to try a little bit of everything so she can find out her strengths. She revealed Iris is her idol and she hopes to become like her. “I watched her movies before,” Serene said. “I think her acting is really good and she is very low-key, I like that.”
