Simon Yam Recovers from Injury; To Leave Hospital Tomorrow

Hong Kong star Simon Yam (任達華) was stabbed in the abdomen by a schizophrenic attacker during a promotional event in Zhongshan on July 20. Hurting four fingers in the process of defending himself, Simon received surgery to ensure his finger nerve condition would not be damaged. The actor’s wife Qi Qi (琦琦), daughter Ella Yam (任晴佳) and elder brother Peter Yam (任達榮) visited him immediately after he was transferred to a hospital in Hong Kong.

Clearly worried with her husband’s finger surgery, Qi Qi didn’t answer any questions with the press until after Simon’s surgery was successfully completed. She said, “Everything is stable, and the follow-up surgery was successful. Everyone can relax.” The surgery took two hours and it was fortunate that the reconnection of his finger nerves went well. Otherwise, Simon would have lost nerve sensitivity in his fingers.

When asked how she feels about the matter, Qi Qi said, “He only tells me good news and never the bad news. He doesn’t want me to worry, so I hope that he gets well soon. I think it’s not only family, but also his friends are very worried. But everything is going fine, so thank you for your concern!”

Simon is under good care with support from his family, manager and agency. His manager Mani Fok (霍汶希) and boss Albert Yueng (楊受成) also visited him. When asked if the company will strengthen security measures for their artistes, Mani said that there has always been precaution taken, but will lessen interactive fan sessions in the future.

Recovering well, the 63-year-old actor is expected to leave the hospital on July 24.

  1. This management company have the worst knee-jerk reaction. Instead preventing crazy attackers by up security manning, vet better guards, and so forth, they immediately penalize the real fans with cutting session short or do less sessions. SMH.

The security staff that worked the event that day looked like they had little to no security training at all and were just picked off the street the day before.

  2. Artist need to wear bullet proof vest and never get too near fans. It is just not worth the risk.
