Sisley Choi Attracts Antifans

One of TVB’s highly promoted fadan actresses, Sisley Choi (蔡思貝) has taken part in many dramas and even clinched the TVB Queen Award in 2020, beating out veteran artistes with her role as “Deanie” in Legal Mavericks 2020 <踩過界II>. Despite 10 years in the industry, she has not developed much affinity with viewers – as seen from a recent wave of criticism about her on TVB executive Virginia Lok‘s (樂易玲) social media account!

A netizen’s comment which accumulated over 6,000 upvotes (and counting) specifically mentioned Sisley to Miss Lok, stating that viewers disliked her and requested for her not to star in productions to avoid pulling down ratings.

Asked if she knew the reason she was dreaded, Sisley said, “I want to know why too,” and when reporters brought up the comment with 6,000 likes, she responded, “There are more than 6,000 people in this world,” Despite the attack from netizens, the 32-year-old continued to update her Douyin account with photos of herself at the recent TVB awards presentation ceremony. Provoking antifans, they commented beneath Sisley’s post. “Yoyo is really pretty, all the best Yoyo”, “Don’t read these trolls’ comments! You are the most beautiful! I will always support you! All the best! Yoyo Chen!”, “As long as you don’t like Sisley Choi, we are good friends”.

This fueled speculation that Yoyo Chen (陳自瑤) has to do with netizens’ dislike of Sisley, which brings to mind past talk of Sisley being the third wheel in Yoyo’s marriage to actor Vincent Wong (王浩信). There were rumors that Vincent was spotted visiting Sisley at her apartment late in the night, though Vincent later clarified that he was part of a steamboat gathering, and denied having done anything to hurt Yoyo; Yoyo herself spoke up in his defense, denying that her husband cheated. However, the two actresses have since avoided interactions, and reporters who attempt to ask Yoyo about Sisley’s matters would be promptly halted by her manager.

Supportive Comments

Alongside negative comments by Chinese netizens, Hong Kong netizens have echoed their dislike on other platforms – “She has an aura that naturally invites dislike”, “I know she’s a flirt, so no one likes her” – though other netizens have spoken up in her defense, acknowledging her decent performance as an actress. “Actually, my opinion of her changed after watching Let Me Take Your Pulse <我的大夫>”, “She’s shown much improvement and is a lot easier on the eyes now”.

  1. I don’t really know where the haters are coming from. I haven’t ever felt a bad “vibe” from her, ever. I think she was annoying when she first started, but it’s evident that her acting skills have improved drastically. She did have “flirty” rumours surrounding her but she honestly doesn’t feel like she’s anymore flirty than a friendly female to me.

  2. I agree. She’s a decent actress (who is still improving) and I actually prefer watching her than Yoyo.
