What Donnie Yen Always Packs in His Suitcase

Action star, Donnie Yen (甄子丹), does not stay still even when he is undergoing quarantine. Unlike others who prepared books or downloaded dramas onto their laptops, the 57-year-old actor chose to pack his wing chun wooden dummy to hotels in order to practice martial arts every day.

Living up to his nickname as “The Strongest in the Universe,” Donny shared a short video on social media earlier of his quarantine routine. In the clip, he launched himself into a flying kick straight towards the wooden dummy. It is estimated that the dummy is around 5.5 feet high, and  Donnie was delivering a flying kick at least 4 feet high in the air. Netizens were in awe and joked that Ip Man in quarantine seemed even stronger than usual!

Known globally for playing the titular martial arts master in the Ip Man <葉問> film franchise, Donnie spent several years learning wing chun for the role and took his wooden dummy everywhere he went.

As he trains vigorously, he would even take the wooden dummy to hotels even on international trips. Once, he was practicing at such a high speed that the noises were so loud that his co-stars from the movie Painted Skin <畫皮>, Zhou Xun (周迅)and Vicki Zhao (赵薇), were unable to rest at all in the hotel room next door!
