Donnie Yen’s “Iceman 3D” Releases Theme Song, Will Air on April 25

After more than a year in the making, martial arts action film Iceman 3D <冰封:重生之門>, which features Donnie Yen (甄子丹) as lead actor, co-director, and action director, will open in theaters on April 25. The movie also released its theme song, “Icebound” (冰封), performed by Taiwanese singer Jam Hsiao (蕭敬騰).

Co-directed by Donnie and Law Wing Cheong (羅永昌), Iceman 3D is a remake of Clarence Fok’s (霍耀良) 1989 film, The Iceman Cometh. The story tells of how a Ming Dynasty hero (Donnie Yen) and his enemy (Wang Baoqiang 王寶強) were frozen during a fight and cryonically preserved by accident. When they are brought back to life in modern day Hong Kong, they continue their battle despite the unfamiliar setting.

For the theme song of Iceman 3D, the film production invited well-known Taiwanese lyricist Yao Chien (姚謙) and Hong Kong singer-songwriter Denis Ng (吳彤) to combine their talents. The ensuing result, “Icebound,” showcases a clear traditional Chinese style, with lyrics patterned after ancient Chinese poetry and musical accompaniment personally performed by Denis.

“Icebound” is performed by singer Jam Hsiao, who was recommended for the part by Donnie, since he felt that Jam’s unique voice was a good match for the deep emotions brought out by the film. In turn, Jam shared that he is a big fan of kung fu films and even idolizes Donnie, so it was an honor to lend his vocals for Iceman 3D. This is the singer’s first time performing a song for a movie.

Iceman 3D, which also features appearances by Simon Yam (任達華) and Eva Huang (黃聖依), boasts a budget of $200 million HKD. With its all-star line-up, eye-catching action scenes, and ground-breaking special effects, it is sure to light up theaters on April 25.

    1. Ironic thing is that Jet has spent most of his career using wirework and special effects whereas Donnie keeps it grounded when its’ needed. Keep hating.

  2. Donnie breaking new ground in action choreography once again. Looks even better than The Monkey King (underrated movie). This is going to be a great year for Donnie/martial arts movie fans.
