Raymond Lam Clarifies Rumors of Leaving Entertainment Industry
Rumors that Raymond Lam (林峯) will quit the entertainment industry in order to help his father manage his family business shocked fans. He was quoted as stated that not helping out his father would deem him unfilial, and that quitting the entertainment industry was not an impulsive decision. Today, Raymond clarified the rumors to reassure panicked fans.
Raymond pointed out that the entertainment industry is for him to develop a career. His family had let him make his own decision, but he would certainly return and help out when his family requires it. As to when that will be, Raymond stated that there is no date yet. He expressed that the rumors were all exaggerated, springing upon the recent outcome of the TVB Anniversary Awards. At the moment, Raymond only wishes to complete current on hand jobs. Currently focusing on his January concert, Raymond noted that there are ongoing discussions of work plans in place.
“I don’t know why there are such rumors. Is it because there is no other news to report? I did accept an interview, and even the reporter knows. One day, I will have to go back and help out my family. This is the responsibility of being the eldest son. But as to when that will be, one year, three years, maybe five years, there is no set time. If my family asks for my help, then I will return.” Raymond expressed. Where might have these rumors emerged? “Maybe it was related to the TVB Best Actor award. But my friends all know that I don’t crave for awards. If I get it, then of course that’s great.”
Speaking of further rumors of being upset and therefore declining to shave his head for new TVB drama, Food for the Slaves <食為奴>, Raymond laughed loudly and said, “This is what the tabloids have been saying about me and the awards ceremony. Ever since I was a newcomer in the industry, I never saw awards as a big deal, but it is the best evidence to show that I have been working hard in the year. For me, the greatest satisfaction comes from everybody’s love for my works.”
As to whether or not Raymond will film Food for the Slaves, he expressed that nothing is certain at the moment, since there are still many changing factors. TVB is still in discussion over the production of the drama, and they have not sat down and spoken to Raymond over the matter yet.

I really doubt his family will ever ask him to come back – temporarily maybe, but not long-term. He has no experience running a business, never mind a real estate business. He has several siblings who will likely be primed for taking over instead.
For traditonal chinese families, the eldest son is the emphasis. His family will definitely try to convince him to come back as the eldest son almost always inherits everything.
There is a common misconception with how businesses are run in westernized cultures vs traditonal asian cultures. The former is almost always looking for skilled and experienced heirs whereas the latter places all hope on family heirs especially the eldest male. That being said, it is completely believable that his family wants him back. Mind you, his sister is already married. He only has a brother left but raymond SR probably wants to go the traditional route.
Also, there were articles in the past where raymond have mentioned that his father has been asking him for his return. But of course no one paid attention to that since it wasnt limelight kind of news.
He can become major shareholder of his father company and no need to in charge day to day operation. If it is a public listed company,where majority shareholder can appoint or overthrow appointed CEO or general manager to run his company. He can check on his tri balance ac every four months on profit or loss ac and progress of projects.
He can always resume his full time job as an artist and at the main time attend board meeting in quarterly year and annual meeting. So it will take four quarterly year meeting and annual meeting with total consumed days of five days per year
They will ask when his father is super sick and bed ridden or dead. I’m not trying to be mean here, but that’s prob whats gonna happen cause the eldest has to take care of things after the dad dies.
Remind me if I’m wrong, but I remember that a few years back, LF mentioned that his father already had intentions for him to go help with the family business. The case then was that LF still wanted to develop his potentials in the entertainment circle while he is still young. It’s definitely not until this day, or after losing BA that his father wants him to go back. This is not new news, and it’s gonna get recycled in a few years to come.
I think he was supposed to return to his father’s business once he turned 30 as that was his agreement with his dad but of course that didn’t happen and I’m thrilled he decided to pursue his career a little longer. Hopefully he will be here to stay.

Raymond really has the potential to make it big in this industry. He has the talent and truly enjoys his work so when the time comes for him to return to his family business, I really hope he can remain while overseeing the real estate business at the same time.
Obviously Ray’s not going to film Food For Slaves (as much as I’d like him to if Ron is in it too). Do you think a person as CHOK as him is willing to shave his head. He didn’t even answer the question about rejecting drama cause not wanting to shave his head. He answered with something else.

It’s ok Raina. Have you looked at the study results of Chinese artistes 2013 power list in mainland? This study was conducted based on popularity and commercial value from mainland entertainment players point of view probably product endorsers and drama or movie investors. Ray is in first tier topping others involving with TVB. Only Ada is with him. The more antis Ray got, the more his rank rise within the industry.

I never believed the story, I never heard of Lam’s family company. Unless, the business is named Lee Kum Kee, there is no way Lam is going to let go of his fun job.
