Artistes Attend Lee Heung Kam’s Funeral

Passing away at the age of 88 in early January, veteran Hong Kong actress Lee Heung Kam’s (李香琴) funeral service was held at the Universal Funeral Parlor in Hung Hom last week.

With decades of experience in the industry, Lee Heung Kam made an impact and touched the lives of artistes spanning different generations, and many will remember her generosity and friendliness. Despite the pandemic, many of Lee Heung Kam’s friends attended the service to bid a final farewell before the actress’ scheduled cremation.

Abiding by the wishes of her family members, no pamphlets were distributed, but photographs of the late actress was put up at the funeral service. Dozens of photos showcased the actress laughing heartily with opera star Bak Sheut Sin (白雪仙), late actor Tam Ping Man (譚炳文), Louis Koo (古天樂), Connie Chan (陳寶珠), Chow Yun Fat (周潤發), Sean Lau (劉青雲), Susanna Kwan (關菊英), Lydia Shum (沈殿霞), Deborah Lee (狄波拉), Barbara Yung (翁美玲), Leslie Cheung (張國榮), Anita Mui (梅艷芳), and Paula Tsui (徐小鳳).

Lee Heung Kam’s godson, Luk Wing Cheung (陸永昌), selected the photos for the service and admitted that he had a hard time making the selections, as Lee Heung Kam had many friends and left behind many cherished photos. Luk Wing Cheung hopes all of his godmother’s friends will be able to lead colorful lives just like Lee Heung Kam did.

Liza Wang (汪明荃), who delivered a speech at the memorial service, praised Lee Heung Kam’s kind heart and willingness to always help those around her. Thanking Lee Heung Kam’s significant contribution to the Chinese opera industry, Liza said Lee Heung Kam never gave up on the Chinese arts and was a workaholic who would never pass up a job opportunity.

Veteran actress Law Lan (羅蘭) expressed that she has been friends with Lee Heung Kam since the black and white film era, and they have known each other for more than four decades.

Appearing teary-eyed, Louise Lee (李司棋) revealed that she has not seen Lee Heung Kam in years, and described the late actress as someone who is warm and loving.

Staying at the service for over half an hour, Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) recalled watching Lee Heung Kam’s dramas growing up and always saw her as a very respected senior. Although it has been very long since he last saw Lee Heung Kam, he remembered a time when she paid for his meal at the TVB canteen.

Other attendees who were present at the service include: Patrick Tse (謝賢); Law Kar Ying (羅家英); Michael Miu (苗僑偉) and his wife Jamie Chik (戚美珍); Felix Wong (黃日華); Margie Tsang (曾華倩); Florence Chan (陳淑芬); Ho Lai Chuen (何麗全); Norman Leung (梁乃鵬); Stephen Au (歐錦棠); Lana Wong (黃夏蕙); Yip Sheung Wah (葉尚華); Sharon Kwok (郭秀雲); Candice Chiu (趙希洛); Leung Siu Ling (梁小玲); John Chiang (姜大衛); Tam Suk Ying (譚淑瑩); and Maggie Chen (陳美琪).

Each guest that arrived received a bag of sanitary supplies, including a bottle of hand sanitizer and a colorful face mask, a symbol of Lee Heung Kam’s colorful and adventurous life.
