Louis Koo Wins Outstanding Achievement Award in London

Continuing to break milestones in the Hong Kong film industry, Louis Koo (古天樂) is especially passionate about the sci-fi genre. After Warriors of Future >明日戰記 soared to the top of the local box office and became the most successful Chinese-language film in Hong Kong’s history, the film  was selected to close this year’s London Asian Film Festival and Louis was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award.

During his award acceptance, Louis advised everyone to be mindful about holiday celebrations after mentioning the horrific incident in South Korea where over 150 people died in the Itaewon crowd crush. “I hope to bring joy to the public no matter how big or small the award is, but I feel very heavy in the heart because of the accident.”

When he was a child, Louis remembered watching many long acceptance speeches on television. However, his father taught Louis to “do more and speak less,” which inspired Louis to “become someone who would do more and speak less” under many circumstances. He said, “Warriors of the Future is my first foray in science fiction films– I hope I can continue to create awesome movies for everyone.”

Although it was very challenging to produce a sci-fi movie, Louis was against relying on a foreign team to make the movie. Instead, he  learned everything from scratch and invested an enormous amount of time, effort, and money into Warriors of Future.

Although many great sci-fi movies come from Hollywood, Louis wanted to start creating a collection of his own science fiction films. His goal was not to compete with Western countries, but he remained confident that Chinese films can be just as good in quality.

  1. Very disappointed in Louis Koo for not giving the opportunity for overseas viewers to watch Warriors of Future on the big screen. This is heading straight to Netflix.
