The new drama Overdo <這一秒過火>, starring Zhang Linghe (張凌赫) and Wang Churan (王楚然), has generated nonstop buzz since its premiere on the 19th. However, its opening title sequence sparked severe backlash from viewers for using AI generation, with critics calling it “cheap” and “hideous”—some even mocked it for looking like a low-budget short-form drama. Stiff Expressions from AI-generated Opening Draws Criticism

The drama had drawn immense public attention ever since it was filming. Thanks to its high-visage lead cast and tragic romance theme, it was widely regarded as a major tentpole release for 2026. However, the show incorporated AI generation technology into its opening, resulting in an unnaturally synthetic look. Relying on stiff lighting effects and AI-generated figures, the sequence attempted to portray the leads’ romance from childhood to adulthood. Key scenes—such as a field of flowers, sinking underwater, and a burning house—completely obscured the characters’ facial expressions, triggering heavy criticism over its crude production quality.

While some netizens argued that the AI era has arrived and that adopting AI is an inevitable trend—noting that opening and ending credits can be skipped anyway without affecting the main episodes—others pushed back sharply. Pointing out that Overdo is a high-budget production, critics condemned the decision, arguing that “passing off inferior work like this only accelerates the decline of long-form television.”
