Kai Ko Returns to Romance with “When a Wolf Falls in Love with a Sheep”

After his starring role as the male lead in the 2011 romance film You Are the Apple of My Eye <那些年,我們一起追的女孩>, for which he won a Golden Horse Award for Best New Actor, Taiwanese actor Kai Ko (柯震東) is back with another romantic movie likely to win the hearts of couples and romantics across the country. When a Wolf Falls in Love with a Sheep <大野狼和小綿羊的愛情> opened in theaters in mainland China on April 28 and has won the praise of many viewers for its touching storyline and its classic script.

The movie follows the story of Tung (Kai Ko) and his search for his ex-girlfriend, who left him without saying goodbye. He finds a photocopying job on Nanyang Street, known for its many cram schools. Tung later befriends Yang (Taiwanese actress Jian Manshu (簡嫚書)), a teaching assistant who likes to draw cartoon pictures of sheep on the test papers. Yang too has suffered from a lost love in the past. Although sparks begin to fly between Tung and Yang, they are hesitant to face the facts because they cannot part with their painful memories.

After watching When a Wolf Falls in Love with a Sheep, many viewers said they were touched by the profound and romantic lines, which they said had a therapeutic effect on those trapped in the abyss of love. One particularly moving line is spoken by Tung when he explains why he returns lost objects to their owners: “I’m like these things left in the storage cabinet, waiting for the one who threw us away. I believe that when their owners lay eyes on them again, they will think of those happy times once more.”

Kai Ko shared that he was deeply moved by the background narration at the end of the film, which says, “Answers really will fall from the sky, but only when you launch the answers into the sky first.” He believes that this line encourages us to be brave when it comes to love, if we want to see results. “Don’t just depend on love,” he said. “The meaning it encompasses is actually universal. Use an open-minded heart to accept those things that are lost. Only then can injuries be healed.”

Because When a Wolf Falls in Love with a Sheep focuses on the experiences leading to the start of a relationship, audiences are calling it a “confessionary” romantic movie, saying that it is suitable for couples to watch, but even more suitable for those about to become a couple. Male viewers have joked that it is the perfect movie for picking up girls, and netizens laughingly remarked that the success rate of romantic confessions should shoot up after watching the confession scene in the film. “If you love her,” they wrote, “you should take her to watch [it]!”

  1. I watched this last year, it’s a good movie.

    Taiwanese girls, man oh man.

  2. wow, that TITLE is really illuminating. It made me aware of the unlikelihood of sincerity and good intentions in relationships between Germand and Jews (e.g. Amon Goth, Wolfgang Puck) and Japanese and Chinese/Koreans/Filipinos.

When you put it like that, it is more effective than a father literally DYING because his daughter was impregnated in England by her Japanese schoolmate.

    1. Unrivaled splendor with a touch of insanity.
Cleo: undisputed universal champion of posters of the year, every year.

    1. Am I the only one who finds the movie “You Are the Apple of My Eye” boring and overrated? And I didn’t find it funny that he was naked all the time too. The ending i skipped to was ok thou haha…
