Jay Chou, Leehom Wang, and Zhang Ziyi Perform at Chinese Songs Stars Concert
The Chinese Songs Stars Concert was held on December 29 at the Taipei Arena. Approximately 60 singers from Taiwan and mainland China performed popular songs, allowing the concert to last for 4 hours. It was the first time mainland pop music awards were held in Taiwan.
The singers were seated in the first row, so that they can enjoy one another’s performances. One highlight of the concert was when Jay Chou (周杰倫) and Zhang Ziyi (章子怡) walked onstage holding hands. At the time, Zhang Ziyi had a high fever and was unable to sing. She introduced Jay to the audience for his performance of “Red Dust Inn” <红尘客栈> .
Holding hands soon became the theme of the concert. Singers partnered for the first time to sing duets onstage. Jane Zhang (張靚穎) and Leehom Wang (王力宏) held hands and sang “Another Heaven” <另一个天堂>. Other pairs of singers included Karen Mok (莫文蔚) and Li Yuchun (李宇春), who performed “Fragrance of Roses” <玫瑰香>, as well as Chase Chang (張傑) and Angela Zhang (張韶涵). Angela aimed for a really high note, but unfortunately, she sang off tune.
Yoga Lin (林宥嘉) appeared onstage and sang Mayday’s “Stubborn”. Mainland singer, Wanting Qu (曲婉婷), was also scheduled for a performance. Wang Meng Ling (王梦麟), South Duet, Ye Jia Xiu (叶佳修), and Li Jian (李建)performed “Grandma’s Penghu Bay” <外婆的澎湖湾> altogether. In the middle of the performance, Ye Jia Xiu lost beat and fell behind two measures. He was later able to catch up with the help of others.
Achieving the title Best Singer many times at this concert in past years, Leehom Wang was invited onstage by the organizer to lead the song, “Heirs of the Dragon” <龙的传人>. All the singers and artists present were invited onstage to sing the song together to bring the concert to a glamorous end.
