“Japan’s Most Beautiful Woman”

According to media reports, a member of her team visited Nakayama’s Tokyo home to check on her when she did not show up for work as planned, and found her unresponsive in her bath. Paramedics confirmed her death when they arrived at the scene, and police investigations are now underway into her cause of death.

The actress and singer was supposed to perform at “Miho Nakayama Christmas Concert 2024 in Billboard Live” on December 6 at Osaka, but the organizer made a sudden announcement at 2pm calling off the show due to her poor health. Announcement of her death then made headlines an hour later. In her last social media post, she had shared the visual of modern art displayed at an exhibition in Tokyo she had attended, an artwork by French artist Louis Bourgeois which embroidered the words “I have been to hell and back.”

Miho Nakayama’s talent extends beyond acting. Scouted as a model in Harajuku during her school days, her delicate and charming appearance quickly led to her debut as a teen idol singer.

At the peak of her fame in the 1980s and 199s, she rose to prominence alongside Shizuka Kudo, Yui Asaka, and Yoko Minamino, collectively known as the “Four Heavenly Idol Queens.” She also enjoyed stellar success as a singer, boasting eight No. 1 singles on the Oricon charts, including two million-sellers, both theme songs from dramas she starred in. Her dominance across acting, singing, and modeling made her a household name.

Nakayama married novelist and musician Hitonari Tsuji in 2002 and later moved to Paris, but their marriage ended after 12 years. The beloved actress leaves behind a son.
