Carina Lau and Nicholas Tse Celebrate at Hong Kong Film Awards After-Party

Since the planning committee of the 30th Annual Hong Kong Film Awards did not organize an official after-party following the awards ceremony, several film companies held their own celebratory gatherings. Best Actor, Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Best Actress, Carina Lau Ka Ling appeared at the after-party organized by EEG and Huayi Brothers.

EEG boss, Albert Yeung, was extremely pleased with Nic Tse winning the Best Actor award. Mr. Yeung laughed and said that Nic had grown-up and did not need any rewards. Currently, Nic had several films on hand and was expected to fly to Malaysia to film Dante Lam’s The Viral Factor <逆戰>. The film’s production fee was expected to be increased from $150 million (HKD) to $180 million (HKD). Mr. Yeung admitted that Nic’s filming fee will be increased upon his contract renewal, while saying, “There’s no need to [talk about money] with Nic!”

Nic indicated that he appreciated and was overwhelmed by Chow Yun Fat’s praise. After receiving the Best Actor award, Nic spoke with his father, Patrick Tse, on the phone. In his acceptance speech, Nic apologized to his father about his former arrogance and disrespect. Patrick said, “I got your message!”

Earlier, Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi threatened that if Nicholas Tse won the Best Actor Award, the couple would go home quickly to “make another baby.” Since he did not like to socialize, Nic stayed for less than half an hour at the EEG after-party. Due to the crowd atmosphere, Cecilia waited outside for Nic in the car while busily checking her phone. Reporters teased Nic that he was in a rush to go home in order to make another baby!

Carina Lau was in extremely high spirits at the after-party and stayed until 4 AM. Carina was slightly tipsy and hugged everyone when she left. After hugging Tsui Hark and Shi Nan Sun goodbye, Carina boarded her car and left for home. Perhaps Carina was growing older, she indicated that she had to go home first before the sense of happiness would truly settle in. She laughed and said that she will not be able to sleep that morning. Carina shared the text message that husband, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, had sent to support her in the Hong Kong Film Awards competition, “No matter what the award results are tonight, you will always be the Best Actress in my heart!”

Many other celebrities attended the EEG after-party, including Nick Cheung, Angelababy, Zhou Xun, Michelle Ye, Albert Yeung, Mani, Vincy Chan, Sherman Chung, etc. At 2 AM, Best Supporting Actor Teddy Robin and film crew members arrived on the scene excitedly and waved to reporters.  At 4 AM, Nick Cheung, Tsui Hark, and Dante Lam stepped outside together.  Nick took some photos with fans and returned to the party to continue drinking.

Jayne: Sounds like the after-party was a big blast! With Nic and Cecilia’s filming schedules so hectic, it might take some time before they successfully “make another baby!”

  1. Congrats to them all and it seems like they all had a great time at the after party. Too bad Nic did not stay for too long. It is so sweet that Nic made that speech to his father and he got the message. How touching… I hope that their father and son relationship will be stronger from now on…

    1. yes..very touching..i am glad he has really grown up..

guess having children makes one more thouhtful & more appreciative of own parents..

  2. I’m confused. How can Nic earn $150 million (HKD) to $180 million (HKD)???? Hong Kong movie rarely make $20 millions in box office.

    1. @Sammy, I rechecked the article figures, it’s the production cost of the movie increasing to 180 million and not Nic’s filming fee.

  3. I’m not really into award shows and stuff but nick’s speech had me in tears. What a sweet moment, I’m happy for nick and his family.

    1. Specially Congrats! to Nic, You have done it ! Good Job! It is all your hard work I have tears for him too !

  4. If news reports are true … shouldn’t Carina not go to the party b/c she would have seen Albert Yeung.

Wasn’t he the guy linked to her nude scandal?

    1. Wasn’t that a long time ago?? If so, then I don’t think they should hold grudges for that long.

      1. This is big though! It’s your reputation and dignity. I probably still want to kill Albert Yeung right now.

      2. I thought he was the one who published her naked photos?

      3. HeTieShou, that’re more than a grudge. That is pure meaness so if she holds grudges, that is understandable.

    2. @Pandamao, Albert Yeung is unavoidable in the film industry. Emperor Motion Pictures invests in a lot of big budget movies such as Feng Xiaogang’s “Aftershock” in conjunction with Media Asia, China Film, and Huayi Brothers to capture the huge lucrative mainland box office. Emperor again partially produced mega-hit “Let the Bullets Fly” which starred Chow Yun Fat and Carina Lau. These are the big players at the moment, so it’s impossible to avoid Mr. Yeung in the industry. Mr. Yeung seems to have endless pockets when it comes to financing.

      @Funn,
In 1990, Carina was kidnapped by triads, allegedly because she refused a film offer by Mr. Yeung (as per Wikipedia), In 2002, East Magazine published pixelated topless photos of Carina, taken during the kidnapping. On the surface, you would think that Carina would hold a grudge…but if her vision is set on continued involvement in the film industry, then Mr. Yeung cannot be avoided. At least be neutral at public events.

  5. Isn’t threaten not suitable word to use? Why threaten? Maybe promise? Or is it a threat to populate our world with Nic Tse/Cecilia Cheung DNA?

    1. Lol maybe the english translation lost it’s initial meaning.

    2. @Funn, I wonder why reporter chose to use word threaten, but I think it is supposed to convey humor, that is Nic were to win the Best Actor award, the couple would go home to celebrate and make love. I think the couple had their own plans and it was their humorous way of ditching the crowd and socializing that Nic may not have wanted to do.

In another article from yesterday’s news, Cecilia said she wanted to have 4 kids in total, to have big family feel and more liveliness. However, “making another baby” will have to wait since they are both busy filming now.

In interviews, Cecilia loves to make fun of Nic, saying he and his dad, Patrick, likes to wear the same sunglasses, strike poses, etc. The threaten to make baby is another one of her jokes.

  6. Am so glad to feel both the best actor n actress have a blissful relationship with the other half..Hope they’re bless wit happiness forever~

  7. Ok now I’ve got a party-pooper question. When, the hell, is the Grandmaster going to finish shooting? If it was any other director I would’ve cried ‘deliberate delay to remove Donnie Yen’s portrayal from recent memory’.

  8. Did anyone see the other films by the other nominees for best actor? Was Nick’s acting really great in his movie to deserve his winning?

    1. Ooo ooo I did. I’ve seen them all.

Out of the lot his was the better in my opinion. He gave a performance he hasn’t yet been able to give and truly convinced me that he was ‘the’ character. Not just ‘playing’ the character.

Nick Cheung’s role in Stool Pigeon was very cardboard cutout. Chow Yun Fat’s role was dogged by the fact the movie was not very interesting and nobody knows how Confucius really acted to compare. Big Tony Leung was alright but the character was forgettable and same with Jacky Cheung’s one.
