Charmaine Sheh and Kenneth Ma to Star in New TVB Drama

Since leaving TVB in 2016, Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) has created her own studio and successfully broken into the Chinese market with her role in Story of Yanxi Palace <延禧攻略>. Recently, it was rumored that she will return to TVB to help save ailing ratings. A cast list has been circulating on the Internet, sparking excitement over the upcoming news anchor drama!

It was initially said that Charmaine would be starring opposite Tavia Yeung (楊茜堯) again in a modern day reprisal of their roles in the 2009 Beyond the Realm of Conscience <宮心計>. However, the revised cast list does not include Tavia, but features Samantha Ko (高海寧) and Regina Ho (何依婷). The male lead is Kenneth Ma (馬國明).. Winner of this year’s Best Supporting Actor award, Eric Tang (鄧智堅) and former BOP member Lincoln Hui (許俊豪) round out the supporting cast.

The temporary name for the drama is News Queen < NEWS新聞女王> and is based off American drama The Morning Show, where senior news anchors fight for the coveted 6:30 a.m. news spot. It will be produced by Chung Cheng (鍾澍佳) who is known for producing classics like Old Time Buddy <難兄難弟> and Return of the Cuckoo <十月初五的月光>.

Interestingly, Charmaine’s last feature TVB drama was 2016’s A Time of Love 2 <愛情來的時候2>, in which she also starred opposite Kenneth Ma.
