Dilraba’s rose to top-tier fame after starring with Yang Yang (楊洋) in You Are My Glory <你是我的榮耀>. Two years ago, she teamed up with Gong Jun (龔俊) in the historical drama The Legend of Anle <安樂傳>, which unfortunately flopped both in ratings and reviews. Since then, she has taken a break from new releases.

Hot on the heels of her two modern dramas Sword Rose <利劍玫瑰> and Love On the Turquoise Land <梟起青壤> reportedly scheduled for release this summer came the recent release of a trailer for her new historical fantasy Love Beyond the Grave co-starring Arthur Chen Feiyu (陳飛宇) and Wei Zheming (魏哲鳴).

The teaser has already garnered over 13 million views, with the quality of the costumes, performances, and world-building, setting Love Beyond the Grave up as one of the most anticipated fantasy dramas. Fans are calling Dilraba’s ethereal and regal looks her best historical styling ever, while her original voice acting in her mesmerizing, ghostly tone is also drawing praise.

Adapted from the novel Carrying a Lantern in Daylight (白日提燈) by Li Qingran, it tells the story of the gifted Ghost Queen He Simu (Dilraba), who encounters a young general named Duan Xu (Chen Feiyu). The two begin a cautious and mysterious connection, sharing all five senses. As He Simu comes to understand the darkness in Duan Xu’s past and his inner ambitions, Duan Xu also discovers her steadfastness and loneliness. The story unfolds as a romance between a mortal with a lifespan under a hundred years, and a four-hundred-year-old demon who still appears as a youthful maiden. Together, they defy the flow of time, and fight to protect the beauty of the human world.

Toward the end of the trailer, she delivers a heartbreaking line to Arthur Chen’s character, “You are my only curse-bearer. I wish for all your dreams to come true… but I am the one wish you cannot fulfill”, hinting at a bittersweet ending.
