Frankie Lam Invites Jonathan Chik to Pen New ATV Drama

Since joining ATV in 2019 as Vice President, Frankie Lam (林文龍) has been hoping to revitalize the struggling station’s programming. With three decades of experience as an actor, Frankie has connections with television talent which he wants to recruit to assist the station.

After suffering financing issues and losing its free-to-air television broadcasting license in 2017, ATV is operating as a streaming platform and relaunched its drama department. After an uneventful first year at ATV, Frankie moved to the station’s sister company, Asia Momentum Media (AMM) in 2020 in the role of Vice President.

Currently, the 53-year-old is hosting a talk show, Let’s Talk about a Man’s Heart <同你「限聚音樂」唱談男人心>. In a recent episode, Frankie invited good friend Michael Tse (謝天華) as a guest and shared that the station is planning to produce several new variety shows and an upcoming drama. When Michael teased, “Why didn’t you invite me to take part in the drama?” Frankie laughed and joked, “Michael has been diligently learning Mandarin in recent years since he moved his career to China. His Cantonese is very poor now. I don’t want to find someone to dub over his voice.”

In addition, Frankie has invited renowned producer Jonathan Chik (戚其義), who was behind the TVB classics War and Beauty <金枝慾孽> and When Heaven Burns <天與地>, to helm the script for a new drama. However, filming may not take place this year because of the challenges of the pandemic.

As to recent reports that ATV has been advertising their factory space in Tai Po to be used as a platform for virtual currency-related “mining” services, Frankie emphasized that he is unaware of the issue, and is not involved in the operations related to the main company. He added, “I only took over the sister company, AMM. However, ATV’s main operations and management decisions are unrelated to me.”
