From Isabella Leong to Celina Jade, Here are 7 Actresses with Mixed Heritage

At a glance, the Chinese, Hong Kong, and Taiwanese entertainment industries look quite homogenous, but a few gems can be spotted on the way. From Jenny Tseng (甄妮) to Ann Bridgewater (柏安妮), artistes of mixed heritage have found popularity and success in the Chinese-language entertainment industry across different generations.

But what about the current generation? Here are seven beautiful artistes of mixed heritage currently active in our entertainment industry.

Isabella Leong (梁洛施)

The Macau native has semi-retired since becoming a mother of three, but her popularity definitely warrants a spot on this list. Isabella is Macanese: her father is from a wealthy Macau-based Portuguese family, and her mother is Chinese. Her father had passed away when she was only a toddler, but Isabella did not learn of her father’s death until she was 14 years old.

Kelly Fu (傅嘉莉)

The TVB actress is 1/8th German—her grandfather from her mother’s side is of German descent.

Celina Jade (盧靖姍)

Although best known for her performance in the Chinese blockbuster hit Wolf Warrior 2 <戰狼2>, Celina had her origins in Hong Kong and Japan. Born in Hong Kong, Celina was raised in both the United States and in Hong Kong, speaking fluent Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. Her father, Roy Horan, is an American martial arts director. When she was 14, she won a record deal with a Japanese producer. In 2007, she joined Gold Typhoon and debuted in Hong Kong as a singer and actress. She released various singles in Hong Kong and Taiwan before her acting career started to flourish in China. Celina also starred as “Shado” in the CW series Arrow, featuring the DC superhero of the same name.

Amy Lo (盧慧敏)

Relatively new to the industry, 26-year-old model Amy made her broadcasting debut with Viu TV. Her mother is from Costa Rica, and she is fluent in Spanish.

Chloe Nguyen (阮兒)

Chloe has been in the industry since 2006, with her entry being the Miss Hong Kong Pageant. Although she failed to reach the same stardom as her predecessors, she did manage to receive a surge in popularity after starring in the sitcom, Come Home Love <愛回家>, as Pinky. Her father is Vietnamese, and she has been doing more work related to her home country. Perhaps Chloe can consider travelogues as her new venture!

Karena Ng (吳千語)

Best known for being Raymond Lam’s (林峯) (now former) girlfriend, Karena’s father is of mixed Chinese, Australian, and French heritage. Since her split from Raymond, Karena has been steadily working to build back her career. She will be starring in Ip Man 4: The Finale <葉問4: 完結篇>, coming this Christmas.

Maxi Li (李詩穎)

Chinese newcomer of the year is Maxi Li, the daughter of Chinese actor Li Chungxiao (李崇霄) and his German wife. Maxi has been gaining momentum for being the “younger sister” of Angelababy; the 19-year-old is definitely on her way to being one of the nation’s top models.

  1. 1/8th doesn’t even count at all, that’s venturing into Elizabeth Warren territory. It’s even possible she never inherited any genes from that side.

  2. actually i think kelly fu is the prettiest one on this list. the rest of the girls aren’t bad looking, but in a sea of white people, their looks won’t really stand out. only among asian people would they be considered gorgeous, but i’m not particularly impressed.

karena ng also isn’t that pretty, but in good angles, she can look very pretty.

    1. @coralie Me too. I have always found KF her to be pretty so not sure why she was never promoted in TVB as she came out the same time as Natalie Tong right? I like her acting far more than NT’s. Actually, golddigger Isabella Leong isn’t bad looking either. haha lol…Least attractive to me was Celina Jade. All the rest are still kind of pretty but didn’t know some of them were mixed blood.

      1. @wm2017 KF wasn’t promoted in tvb cuz she tarnished her own image with a bunch of scandals.

i never found isabella leong pretty; handsome, maybe. but even at the peak of her career, she never came across as pretty to me. celina jade is too masculine-looking, more handsome than pretty.

the thing with the girls on this list is that most of them rely on really good angles to look good. kelly fu looks good in most of her photos, regardless of angle, that’s why she deserves the title of prettiest.

  3. Celina Jade was cute during her heydays with Tetsuya Komuro. I actually knew Celina thru doing some freelance translating for her back in the alivenotdead days. Had to correspond with her every now and then just to get some of the context right.
