Is Jeannie Chan the Next TVB Fadan?

Fronting the poster for TVB anniversary drama The Beauty of War <美麗戰場> along with male lead Joel Chan (陳山聰), actress Jeannie Chan (陳瀅) looks to be climbing up the station’s fadan ranks!

Starring in Your Highness, The Hooligan <痞子殿下> which ended its run recently on good ratings, plans are being made for a sequel. Proof of her rising fadan status, Jeannie will appear onscreen the following month, this time in heavyweight production The Beauty of War.

Painted as Gold-digger
Given the dearth of fadans at the ailing station, Jeannie’s consecutive good performances in Of Greed and Ants <黃金有罪>, Beauty and the Boss <愛美麗狂想曲> and Your Highness have been making her the new darling of many producers, on top of her good work etiquette and imaging versatility.

While her career got off to a promising start with 2014’s Never Dance Alone <女人俱樂部>, Jeannie’s on-off dating rumors with rich 3G Arnaldo Ho (何猷亨), the son of late casino king Stanley Ho (何鸿燊) – the two were seen attending a concert together and he visited the actress on set – led to her being labeled a “gold-digger”, given the latter’s prominent wealth.

After the two parted ways, she put her energies on work, and kept a low profile amid swirling rumors with co-stars including Bosco Wong (黃宗澤), Alex Fong (方力申) and Kalok Chow (周嘉洛). While the tabloids loved to draw attention to her weight gain, Jeannie has gained the favor of TVB management in light of the fadan exodus.

Turns Down Role in “You Are Not Her”

TVB is keen to promote the 1.85m-tall Aska Cheung.

She was reportedly the ideal female lead for upcoming drama You Are Not Her <妳不是她>, as TVB looked to pair her up with Stars Academy <聲夢學員> alumnus Aska Cheung (張馳豪), who was also her co-star in Your Highness. However, the 32-year-old had applied for leave to attend the Paris Fashion Week and thus turned down the role – her no-show causing Aska to lose a casting opportunity.

Jeannie’s role eventually went to Crystal Fung (馮盈盈), whom male lead Karl Ting (丁子朗) commented had a similar personality as drama character she is set to play. Finally unfrozen after months, Crystal has been spotted frequently working out at the yoga center, hoping to appear onscreen in top physical and mental shape.

The TVB anniversary drama also stars Moon Lau (劉佩玥), Hera Chan (陳曉華) and Rebecca Zhu (朱晨麗).

  1. Angel Chiang is a much better actress. Her voice is a little pitchy and can get annoying, but otherwise, a much stronger actress. I’m not a huge fan of any of the other remaining girls, but I definitely don’t think Jeannie deserves the lead role…

  2. Out of Tvb’s current 35 years or younger lead actresses, I like Rebecca Zhu, Moon Lau, Kelly Cheung, Venus Wong the most. And Grace Wong. Jeannie’s probably at #15 hahaha
