Popular South Korean girl group NewJeans announced on the 28th of last month that their agency, ADOR, had unilaterally declared their contracts void without addressing their concerns, leading to a breakdown in negotiations between the two parties.

On December 5, ADOR announced that it had filed a lawsuit at Seoul Central District Court on December 3, seeking court confirmation that NewJeans’ contracts remain valid in a bid to prevent the group from engaging in activities that would breach the agreements. However, NewJeans issued a statement on December 6, asserting that they have not been under ADOR’s management since November 29, and emphasized that ADOR has no authority to interfere with their activities.

In their statement, NewJeans claimed that their earnings have already exceeded the investment funds provided by ADOR and its parent company HYBE. They further accused HYBE of repeatedly undermining the group’s value and attempting to manipulate public opinion to hinder their growth. ADOR, they alleged, has enabled HYBE’s actions.

The group also criticized the agency for failing to fulfill its contractual duty to protect its artists, which constitutes a breach of contract. NewJeans stated that their trust in ADOR and HYBE has been completely shattered, adding that the contract stipulates that if ADOR fails to meet its obligations, the artists have the right to terminate the agreement.

Meanwhile, NewJeans member Haerin appeared at Dior Beauty Holiday’ pop-up in Seoul, stealing the limelight along with actress Han Soo Hee.
