Kara Hui Wins Best TV Drama Actress at China’s Huading Awards

The 26th Huading Awards, which celebrates China’s year in television and film, were successfully held on Tuesday, December 10, 2019. Kara Hui (惠英紅) won Best Television Drama Actress for her performance in the Hong Kong TVB drama The Defected <鐵探>, while Chen Baoguo (陳寶國) from the Chinese television drama The Legendary Tavern <老酒館> won Best Actor.

Angie Chiu (趙雅芝) handed the award to Kara, who thanked the audience in Mandarin. She said, “Because it’s been ten years since I last filmed a drama, I really want to thank the director and producer for casting me in such a good series. Honestly, in the last ten years I didn’t get any TV drama jobs in Hong Kong until this one. I really hope the viewers are able to watch my performances, and I also hope I get to take part in more great productions. I don’t want those who support me to be disappointed.”

The MCs asked Kara if she would use this award as leverage to receive a boost in pay. She said, “Money isn’t the most important factor. It is the story and script.”

The Defected premiered in Hong Kong and China on April 1st, and ended its 30-episode run on  May 10, 2019. It also starred Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪) and Philip Keung (姜皓文).

  1. is this a big award? i don’t know much about it b/c out of all the broadcasts in china, the competition must had been intense. i would think that they’d give it to a chinese actress in a chinese drama instead of a hk drama and actress.
