Kayan Choi Gets Married

Miss Hong Kong runner-up Kayan Choi (蔡嘉欣) and her wealthy boyfriend of seven years, Derek, got married in early December. The newlyweds spent nearly seven figures on their wedding, hosting 180 guests at the Aberdeen Marina Club.

Kayan wore a sexy lace wedding dress with a diamond ring that looked to be approximately four carats. The night before, Kayan was unable to sleep because she was constantly worrying about missing things at the wedding. However, she woke up at 6 a.m. on the wedding day.

Derek shared the bridal party took care of him and the door games were very easy, letting him in with an $8,888 Hong Kong dollar red pocket. The most memorable games for him was eating bugs and wearing a retainer to blow out candles. Kayan revealed she conceived the games so her bridesmaids would not feel burdened. “The games were of moderate difficulty–eating bugs is really gross but the bugs were actually snacks.”

On her wedding day, Kayan cried many times, joking she is already emotional just looking at her husband. “When he gave his vows, he said he would give all of his money to me! I’m joking! He actually said the wife is always right. His survival instincts are strong.” Derek added that Kayan’s vows also made him teary eyed.

They both really like children so parenthood will likely will be a natural progression. The pair often travel and have just returned from a trip in October, so they have no plans for a honeymoon yet. Kayan will continue to film YouTube videos and take care of her business. Derek added he admires Kayan’s independence as a career woman.

After the ceremony, Kayan purposefully threw her bouquet at her sister so she will find her true love soon. Although teased for her jarring vocals, Kayan sang Shiga Lin’s (連詩雅) “Gotta Be With You” <只要和你在一起> at the banquet. “I practiced 37 times for tonight–my bridesmaids encouraged me to learn from a teacher but I want to keep my unique flavor!”

Th wedding had a star-studded guest list with celebrities such as Jinny Ng (吳若希) and her husband Alex Ho (何兆鴻); Jennifer Yu (余香凝); Snow Suen (孫慧雪); and Jacqueline Ch’ng (莊思敏) in attendance. The bridesmaids included Regina Ho (何依婷), Eunice Chan (陳詩欣), Karlie Chung (鍾晴), and Vivi Tam (譚嘉儀).

Jinny was seen holding up a light sign that said “Best Vocal Choi.” She met Kayan and Derek while filming for All Things Girl <姊妹淘>. Jinny said, “Kayan is the definitely the best vocal and not the devil’s vocal. She transcends the realm of singing and provides visual and auditory stimulation with her performance! As a guest, I’ve already regained the value of my gift. It’s more expensive than watching Aaron Kwok’s (郭富城) concert! I hope that they will have children soon. Kayan is very good with children and will definitely be a great mom in the future.”
