Kent Cheng Praises Ricco Ng
A new year often signifies a changing of the guard, as TVB promotes younger artistes to take on heavier roles. Actor Ricco Ng (吳偉豪), 24, is the latest to break out from Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛回家> and step onto a wider stage. Besides winning Most Improved Actor at the TVB Anniversary Awards, Ricco has been complimented by seniors such as Kent Cheng (鄭則仕) for having potential.
During the pandemic, Kent slowed down work and had more time at home to cook and watch television. “I did finish filming a movie in Shenzhen in November, and have been resting since and cooking every day!” As a two-time Best Actor winner, Kent was asked if he noticed any newcomers and he praised Ricco Ng.
“Ricco did a good job in Communion <回歸>, which was especially [a big transition] after coming from sitcom Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛回家>. He was convincing as an I.T. professional in Communion. His acting was charismatic and not over the top and he had a good grasp in his dialogue and emotional delivery. I am very happy that he received recognition at the TVB Anniversary Awards– it shows that I have been paying attention to the right actors! He should continue to work hard and steadily improve. I feel that he has potential to become a star,” Kent said.
When Ricco heard Kent’s feedback, the young actor expressed his happiness, “He is a legendary senior and I can’t believe he has been paying attention to my dramas. I’m really happy that he has confidence in me but I couldn’t have done it without the scriptwriters, directors, and producers. I’ve heard many production crew members say that they respect Kent Gor the most. I’ve heard this story many times where he had to film a crying scene in a bathtub, and the entire set was so touched by his acting that they were all crying. That’s when respect for his talent was cemented in my mind.”
