Korean Cult Leader Gets 17 Year Sentence

Netflix’s 2023 documentary In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal revealed the heinous crimes of four cult leaders in Korea. Among them is Jung Myung-seok, leader of the Korean cult JMS (Jesus Morning Star), who sexually assaulted numerous female followers, one of his victims is Hong Kong actor Alex Fong’s (鄭明析) girlfriend, Maple Yip (葉萱).
A New Beginning for Maple
Following the final sentencing of Jung Myung-seok, 31-year-old Maple held a press conference in Korea, where she candidly shared her complex emotions, stating that “the damage suffered cannot be undone.”
Holding the conference alongside the documentary’s main producer, Cho Sung-hyun, Maple described the journey as a “long battle” that had finally come to a conclusion. She expressed that while the verdict cannot heal the pain of the past, she found solace in believing that there will be no further victims.
She also opened up about her struggles after the documentary brought the events to light, admitting that the widespread news made it difficult for her to find work and left her future uncertain.
“I think I can start over again,” she said, now that the ordeal is over. As the face of the long battle which has finally ended in justice, Maple shared an empowering message to other victims, saying “I have finished my battle. You can do it too. Stay strong.”

Maybe it got lowered? The rich never serve long anyway. Ones from Burning Sun scandal didn’t serve full time either.
Still, at least it’s some justice for the victims.
