“Modern Dynasty” Gets Spinoff Series

A big hit among viewers, web drama Modern Dynasty <家族榮耀> is seeing a spinoff series. Producer Tommy Leung (梁家樹) is already at work developing the new script, hoping to reunite the original cast in the upcoming drama which will revolve around another prominent family.

Drawing close to its finale, Modern Dynasty hit 23.6 ratings points last week, close on the heels of TVB’s top-rated show Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛·回家之開心速遞> which achieved 27 points. Modern Dynasty had also received an enthusiastic response when it streamed on Youku.

In the latest episode, Tavia Yeung‘s (楊茜堯) character used a video to manipulate others into believing her innocence. Viewers praised Tavia for her conniving performance, stating that it was even better than her Best Actress performance in 2012’s Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles <名媛望族>.

In the finale week, Chilam Cheung‘s (張智霖) character is still deeply in love with Tavia, and the pair often have steamy meetings on their yacht. Although Chilam later learns that he has been misled in his revenge, he continues to be manipulated by Tavia. His stubbornness in love won over many viewers.

Regarding news of another spinoff in the works, Chilam replied, “It’s great to be able to provide some form of stress relief for the audience, especially given the current times. I hope the team will continue to make great dramas. I had a great time filming [Modern Dynasty]– if my schedule works, I’m willing to take part in the sequel.”

Both Tavia and Him Law (羅子溢) expressed their excitement at the news. Him hopes that they can play friends in the sequel, and not always have to argue! However, he is open to any role as long as the script is attractive and Tavia wants to act in it.

  1. I saw it, enjoyed most of it and yes Tavia did amazingly well even if she doesn’t look the part. However anyone watching rejoicing at the ending aka before the final twist, do remember no one knew what she did to Joe. So yes, I love the ending and hope her character does die.
