“My Journey to You” Disappoints with Open Ending

Directed by Edward Guo (郭敬明), My Journey to You <雲之羽> starring Esther Yu (虞書欣) and Zhang Linghe (張凌赫) aired its awaited finale episode in mid September. Just as fans thought that Yun Weishan and Gong Ziyu were about to surpass all odds and unite, the drama’s deliberate cliffhanger ending left them in heartbreak and disbelief!

Edward Guo’s first time directing a TV series, the story tells of how Yun Weishan, an assassin from murderous Wufeng organisation, pretends to be a bride in order to infiltrate the Gong residence on a spy mission to fetch more intel, but falls for Gong Ziyu. To pursue true freedom and love, she decides to withdraw from the clan. Yun Weishan and Gong Ziyu attempts to draw Wufeng to the palace by making use of Shangguan Qian (played by Lu Yu Xiao 盧昱曉) to disseminate news that the palace is in chaos. Just as their ploy appears to be going smoothly, Yun Weishan receives a letter left behind by the “raven” Han Yasi, who informs her that she has a surviving twin sister.

Desperate to find her kin, the news sets Yun Weishan on the path back to Lixi Town and she makes a promise to Gong Ziyu to return home after a number of days. When Yun Weisan reaches Lixi, he sees Yun Weishan’s twin sister sitting on the floor in a state of fear, while Wufeng’s chief Dian Zhu awaits her. As Dian Zhu is vicious and cruel, viewers are led to believe that Yun Weishan might not be able to escape.

With the main leads showing improved acting, fans are angered by the lack of a definitive ending

After days of futile waiting for Yun Weishan to return as promised, Gong Ziyu finally hears the sound of the palace doors pushing open, but instead of joy his expression is one of disappointment, leading viewers to believe that Yun Weishan did not make it back.

“Lousy Ending” Trends on Weibo Hot Search

As the finale episode closes on his facial expression, many netizens are devastated about the open-style ending after chasing the drama fervently, naming the series “the most cruel cliffhanger drama of the year”. Voicing their dissatisfaction, they “targeted” director Guo Jingming who has “wasted the efforts of a great cast”, with some remarking, “I’ve watched so many dramas but this is the first time I’m so infuriated that I cried”.

  1. I am never sure about Gou Jingming… He strike to me as someone who is very talented and smart but he wants the world to know that.. He is always looking to proof himself… he has used inspiration from many sources in his filming style and aesthetics. I dont find him original…
I watch him in Everyone Stand By 1 +2… To be honest, I was not impressed by him. His arrogance has no boundaries. I found him rather disrespectful.
He is a teaser… this drama is a teaser…he airs one eps each day…but all the rest at one good on the last day. He clearly love playing with mind games…but not all his audience enjoy his games. But this drama is interesting in its own ways. I know many that enjoyed the journey.

    1. Uh, that’s POS director! He’s indeed in the same league as YZ! Such a wasted potential! Sigh! I haven’t started it yet but hearing so many problems this drama has. And now I dont feel like I should watch his series because I dont like what he has done! sigh! sigh! sigh!

  2. They tackled most of the mysteries so I am OK, considering that this is only 24 episodes.

Compared to the stupidest of the stupidest stuff like ZLY’s Legend of Chusen and Princess Agents, focken 67 episodes and they tackled 0 mystery they introduced. That’s what I call unacceptable, lazy, money hungry, and waste of resources. They had no story to tell, no talent to show, nothing but 1 stupid idol ZLY (big money eater) to depend on and drag time as much as possible.

For this show, the only issue is they didn’t have enough time. 24 episodes is too short. They haven’t dragged any episode lazily to get free money. It’s believable if they used their money fairly and ran out of budget to create something with quality this high.

    1. Even if 24+24, that’s only 48 episodes. For things that are a focken 67 eipsodes and nothing accomplished???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? People like ZLY is much more disgusting than GJM and YZ combined, should be boycotted at all cost. If I were to be a director, I’ll speak languages nastier than GJM directly at black marketer like ZLY. Yu Zheng seems to be afraid of her power though, she’s only lucky it’s not easy to offend her. I don’t care how sucky her stuff are but she should not unethical black market against others. The sketchy things happening around Chen Duling lately is highly believed to be her team bc they done the same stuff to others before. That failed to bring down the show, and now it looks like they’re targeting the ending. If people are angry bc they cannot wait for next season, I get it. But Lousy? LMAO!!!!!! How come the articles written for LOUSY ZLY’s Legend of Chusen PLUS Princess Agents are speaking so nice and eloquently for her?????? For this one, it’s waste of effort?????? Yeah, like I can’t tell who’s behind all that none sense.

    2. I remember ZLY was also very upset by the open ending of the drama… She even went online to protest. Of course it is not her fault as it is the production company that abuse the popularity of the drama and wanted a season 2.
But you are right, those days, we never knew if dramas has a end as many were open ended. I remember not watching any dramas till it ended as I really hated investing time and emotions on open ended dramas… and no budget for season 2…

      1. I’m not surprise pple will still stick up for her, she was lucky she could’ve pushed all the blame to the director the first time, but karma hits her back. Once she already blamed a director like that, she should not work with them again then. She still returned to the same director the 2nd time, and they willing to take her back proves that it ain’t like what she said, she’s their boss, they’re not her boss. She has the ability to make the drama good but she refused to film her own scenes. When it comes to the people no connection with her, she accuses them of stealing screen time but when it comes to Zhang Rui’s girlfriend then she brags about how nice she is to give her a role and all the scenes. Oh boy! She’s not co-producer? Obviously she is. The second time she worked with the same director, same attitude, blaming and blaming. She dragged the entire team and lower their morale, heard that it was very awkward after her hamburger post. Had it been in the olden days, for an actor to do such things like her, directors would blacklist her already. The fact that they did not blacklist her shows that her position is much higher than theirs. Not only blacklist, they will fire anybody, they won’t care how big you are, you can be Andy Lau, with that attitude, you’re gone gone. They don’t care if you’re playing the lead and even filmed half way. That’s what happened to the actor in Laughing with the Wind, they switched him out with Li Yapeng only cause he was tardy. She was too old for the role and too old for WYB, and she just gave birth, her body haven’t even heal, and she picked LOF only because WYB was on hot trending. Her professionalism isn’t even questioned. When the show is unsuccessful she pushed all the blame to him and the director. The director must hate her so much that they secretly retaliated by purposely cartoonizing Michelle Chen’s Xiao Longnu photo in a red dress, to be the picture that WYB’s character drew Fei in her red dress. Embarrassing for her. I can praise people like Yu Zheng and Edward Guo, even if they have nasty attitude, they want to prove they’re good and THEY CAN prove they’re good, they live up to their hype, I can clap for them and congrats them. People like ZLY, I don’t want to mock but she black markets against others, it’s about time she retires and babysit.
