Myolie Wu Ages from 18-Year-Old to 65-Year-Old in “Below the Lion Rock”

Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) is set to star in Below the Lion Rock <獅子山下的故事> alongside Aarif Rahman (李治廷) and Huang Jue (黃覺) in a drama that commemorates the upcoming 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover from Britain to China.

The drama is set against the backdrop of a Hong Kong café and aims to invoke nostalgia for its viewers. Sharing details of the drama, Myolie said, “My family and I are fans of Hong Kong cafés. Since my childhood until now, these cafés are a grassroot of Hong Kong’s culture and they are close to my heart. Before filming, I went to many different cafes for research, observed how they operate and how they interact with the customers.”

Myolie has a challenging role as the drama chronicles her character’s life from her youth to her senior years, “Acting as a 18-years-old to a 65-years old is a challenge in my career while I act alongside a group of talented actors. The story begins in the 1980s to the 2020s. Over the 40 years, Hong Kong has undergone many changes so there is an intimate feeling in the making of this drama.”

Speaking about her costars, Myolie reveals that she will be playing a family with Patrick Tam (譚耀文) and Karena Ng (吳千語). Myolie has many praises for her co-stars “Patrick doesn’t have many scenes but he plays an important role. Patrick doesn’t care about screen time and his professionalism shines through in the drama. Karena plays my daughter and her performance is very stable. Even though she was not enrolled in acting training classes, she has a talent for acting.”

Below the Lion Rock has a strong production team consisting of producer Lee Kwok Laap (李國立), director Ng Gam-Yuen (吳錦源), and award-winning screenwriter Ella Chan Po Wah (陳寶華). The trio has previously worked with TVB and is well-suited in showcasing Hong Kong’s vibrant culture.

Below the Lion Rock premieres on June 12th.

  1. I believe i now have the answer to the downfall of HK entertainment industry.

They termed a person who sings out of tune as mega superstar singer (looking at Miriam). Gushing over her performance in the recent CN/HK singing variety
They termed a person who cannot act as the best actress they ever had (looking at none other than Myolie). i think my foot can do a better job.

That is why i rather spend time watching my nails grow than to watch anything from HK/TVB now.

    1. Yeah just look at Twins, but Myolie is still ok although Charmaine and Tavia would be more BA worthy

  2. I actually think Myolie is talented and I would choose her too if I were the Mainland market. She is only a couple years younger than Charmaine and Tavia, so it’s not about age. Myolie’s Mandarin has been praised even by Mainlanders, she already won Best Actress on a reality Mainland acting show, and she can sing and is trained in piano. She’s also 5’7″ and has a more youthful look in general. She can’t compete with 20 something year olds in Mainland but she definitely stands out as a HK representative in Mainland. My favorite performance of her is still Golden Faith and some of her mainland appearances.

  3. I haven’t watched her in much, the last thing was Nothing Gold Can Stay. Her acting is still meh, but that may be my personal hangup because I disliked it so much at the beginning.

  4. I can imagine this being propaganda for the hkg government. RTHK wont be the same anymore since the restructure

  5. Sorry to said that, She is old for playing a 18 yrs old girl… Take as example, korean drama, they mostly use younger actress to play a young version… it’s all about the details
