Nancy Wu and Other TVB Artistes Test Positive for COVID-19

Hong Kong is currently in the clutches of their fifth wave of COVID-19 infections, recording nearly 57,000 new daily cases which is a record high. TVB took strong safety and health precautions during the pandemic, but it has finally succumbed with at least 20 artistes testing positive recently.

TVB stopped all drama filming for one week with the exception of Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛.回家之開心速遞>. The station announced facilities will undergo a deep cleanse and sanitization to ensure that artistes and colleagues are returning to a safe environment. TVB originally intended to halt filming until March 7, but worsening COVID-19 cases have extended the date to March 20.

After Nancy Wu (胡定欣) confirmed that she has tested positive, her Drug Breaker <破毒強人> co-star Moses Chan (陳豪) has been extremely vigilant against the virus in order to protect his family. He wears his mask even at home and refuses to take it off at public events.

Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and Roxanne Tong‘s (湯洛雯) drama Hidden Door <隱門> is still suspended. Ruco expressed his appreciation for the decision, “As artistes, we can’t wear masks and can become asymptomatic carriers. The company’s decision is right, as it is our global responsibility [to contain the spread of COVID-19]. But we’re the same as other Hong Kong citizens, if we stop working then money stops coming in. Many of my good friends had to stop work and take a pay cut. I hope that there will be an effective method to control the pandemic soon.” Ruco’s co-star, Roxanne, agreed that it was a good idea to stop work as she is a bit scared at not being able to wear her mask during outdoor filming.

Filming for Freedom in the Sky <輕.功>, Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) said that it is a good idea to suspend work, “The cases keep rising, so it’s best to observe first. My drama has only just started filming so the pause didn’t have much of a negative effect.”

Kenneth Ma (馬國明) had just received notice that he needs to film indoor scenes for his drama Legal Spokesperson <法言人>, “If you ask me, I feel that delaying it for a few more days would be best. They said that the wave hasn’t peaked, but if the company feels that the indoor set is safe then we still have to work.” Shortly after his statement, the drama cancelled filming for the day. Fellow cast mate Rosina Lam (林夏薇) expressed that she is still waiting for the schedule and is unsure when they will be returning to work.

After actor Kalok Chow tested positive for the virus, Crystal Fung (馮盈盈) and Joey Thye (戴祖儀) who were filming for Sidewalk Scientist- Coronavirus Special <學是疫學非> have also confirmed that they have tested positive. Joey is also filming two dramas and it is not clear if she may have been in contact with the virus through Kalok or Erica Chan (陳嘉慧), who are fellow cast mates.

  1. Are the artists not getting vaccinated or what’s the deal? Although if they are vaccinated which vaccine are they getting.

    1. I heard that HK get vaccine from China and many locals believe it’s all a conspiracy for the government to track them by injecting foreign objects…will not be surprised if Nancy didn’t get vacc.

    2. Are you aware that being vaccinated doesn’t prevent you from contracting covid??? It just lessen the symptoms that you may get from it, it absolutely doesn’t mean you won’t get infected.

    3. Just to fill you in, regardless on which vaccine you take, you can still get infected and transmit. The role of the vaccine is to minimise the symptoms, mainly to prevent death or major lung fibrosis, but death still may happen to vaccinated people with preexisting conditions that weaken their immune system. A vaccinated person with COVID-19 should still need to isolate because even if you won’t die, you may infect and kill someone who is immuno-suppressant . So TVB is right to halt work until the pandemic is under control.
