Popular dramas “The Blood of Youth” and “Blood River” Get a Third Season!

Chinese dramas The Blood of Youth <少年歌行> and its prequel Blood River <暗河傳>both achieved impressive ratings and critical reviews. With the drama’s massive success and following, it is no surprise that the next sequel is in the works.

The Blood River

Since the The Blood River’s premiere in October of last year, the drama has consistently topped the popularity rating. The drama is adapted from a novel of the same name and stars Gong Jun (龔俊), Chang Huasen (常華森) and Peng Xiaoran (彭小苒).

The Blood River tells world’s biggest assassin organization of the same name. When the leader was poisoned while seeking revenge against his enemies, the three clans of the organization are eager to rebel to take the top spot. Su Muyu (played by Gong Jun) leads the Spider-Shadow unit, and he is tasked with escorting the leader to seek medical help. Although the two cross paths with various assassins, Su Muyu would never expect that his close friends Su Changhe (played by Chang Huasen) turned his blades against them.

Blood of Youth

Set in the same universe as The Blood River, The Blood of Youth was considered as a low-budget drama that took netizens by a surprise and helped propelled stars Li Hongyi (李宏毅), Liu Xueyi (劉學義), Ao Ruipeng (敖瑞鵬) and Lin Boyang (林博洋) to stardom.

In Blood of Youth, Lei Wujie (played by Aoi Ruipeng), a disciple of the Lei Clan unexpected crosses paths Xiao Se (played by Li Hongyi), a mysterious innkeeper with a past. As they journey toward Snow Moon City, they are joined by Sikong Qianluo (played by Lin Boyang), the daughter of the city’s lord. Together, the trio becomes entangled in a dangerous political conspiracy surrounding an exiled prince.

The Blood of Youth -Season 2

It is expected that the upcoming sequel will pick up from where the first season left off as Lei Wujie and Sikong Qianluo travel to Nan Jue to fulfill their promise to the crown prince. They are later joined by Xiao Se and the group become embroiled in the power struggles within Nan Jue.

Meanwhile, Su Muyu returns while he wavers between his loyalty for the Blood River and the martial arts world. Adding to his conflict, an unsolved case from 18 years ago resurfaces and it relates to the late-emperor’s death. As details emerge, the impact will be felt by all the characters as they face their own struggles.

Since the two dramas are set in the same universe, netizens are hopeful that the leading male stars, Gong Jun , Li Hongyi Liu Xueyi , Ao Ruipeng ,and Chang Huasen will film together in the upcoming sequel.
