Ruco Chan and Alice Chan Collaborate for the First Time in “Against Darkness”

Starring Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), Alice Chan (陳煒), Sharon Chan (陳敏之), Joseph Lee (李國麟), Kaman Kong (江嘉敏), and Brian Tse (謝東閔), TVB crime drama Against Darkness <黯夜守護者> premiered on September 5.

Despite knowing each other for 20 years, Alice and Ruco never got the chance to collaborate. Viewers can anticipate their refreshing partnership and new character looks, especially since Ruco appears with a slight beard and scruffy hair.

The 20-episode thrilling crime story follows a police team acting as the guardians of the night, as they strive to prevent criminals from getting loose and endangering society. Through a string of cases that exposes the darkest sides of humanity, they struggle to detach themselves from emotions tracing back to their past. But every decision has a consequence, and it all comes down to how they confront the present in a way that they can still maintain their conscience.

Alice Plays a Fierce Madam

Playing a cool police madam, Alice’s character balances both work and parenting. Although Alice is capable of portraying both hard and soft sides, she found the consecutive action scenes challenging, “While I like to perform action scenes, it’s been a few years since I’ve done them.”

Additionally, Alice revealed the biggest challenge was to memorize the long dialogues because the cases are descriptive, and there is also a lot of legal jargon. “I would memorize the lines before sleeping to ensure I remember everything when filming starts. Even if there would be voice over in post-production, I hope our voices could still get recorded on site. The longest dialogue lasted about six pages!”
