Sammul Chan Posts Travel and Food Reviews on the Internet

Due to the popularity of Triumph in the Skies <衝上雲霄>, Kenneth Ma (馬國明), Bosco Wong (黃宗澤), Ron Ng (吳卓羲), and Sammul Chan (陳鍵鋒), were informally dubbed as “S4” after playing pilots in the the TVB drama. Touted as the next generation of siu sangs, the four actors all achieved varying levels of success. Of the original S4 gang, Sammul was first to leave the safety nest of TVB and venture into the Mainland Chinese market.

After starring in the period drama, Schemes of a Beauty <美人心计>, Sammul’s popularity skyrocketed. No longer in chokehold for money, Sammul has been more selective with his projects and has slowed down his work productions to enjoy life. He reflected, “The older I get, the more I need to appreciate those around me. My 100-year-old grandpa and my high school teacher recently fell ill. I made the effort to come back just to visit them. Right now, I won’t just focus on working. I return [home] often.”

To achieve a work-life balance, Sammul also makes sure to carve out time for himself. The 38-year-old bachelor enjoys traveling and trying new foods. He shared, “Right now, I review traveling and food on the Internet. Because I use English and write under an anonymous name, no one knows who I am yet. The response isn’t bad and a lot of people read it. In the future, if I am no longer in the entertainment industry, maybe I can even switch careers and be a full-time reviewer! Besides, I personally really enjoy traveling and eating.”

In an earlier interview, Sammul revealed that he dated someone in the entertainment industry in the past. In terms of his dating criteria, Sammul expressed that he hopes the woman is not clingy, knows how to cook, and can be attentive like his manager and be able to handle various matters. However, Sammul admitted that he has reservations because of his status as an actor. “When other people take initiative, I get scared, but I don’t have the guts to take initiative either. So just leave it up to fate!”

When asked whether his parents have rushed him to get married, Sammul laughed, “They don’t dare rush me, because they’re afraid that I won’t go home to have meals!”
